Why do people still call MMA "The UFC or Cage Fighting"?

    cause normal people arent as passionate or educated about the sport as we are.
    that doesnt automatically make them dumb or ignorant.

    the Zuffa machine has brainwashed too many fans into thinking that "MMA" is only concerned with the "UFC" just like in ufc 118 when couture vs toney they marketed as UFC VS BOXING not MMA VS BOXING just another ZUFFA HYPE MACHINE.

    i look forward to the day when mma results are announced in the sports section of the nightly news. i think that would let everyone know that the sport has arrived and been accepted.
    when the big mma fights are treated in the same way important boxing bouts are by the mass media, the sport would finally become legitimate in everyone's eyes.

    however i think that is a very long way away.

    I dont see what the big deal is.

    I call it MMA. All the orgs.. Strikeforce..UFC..Bellator..KOTC...and others I call it just that. Going to watch the UFC Card. It's MMA not UFC or Cage fighting. Some Great fights happen in the MMA Ring. Love the sport.

    Instead of getting all frustrated and going into a rant when someone doesnt know what Im talking about I just say "MMA, you know that UFC cage fighting stuff?"

    And then they know exactly what Im talking about

    Its convenient
