Ward's chin is solid. Doesn't really matter though, Kovalev hits hard enough to crack a solid chin.
It's possible he could wobble or floor Kovalev despite him not being a particularly powerful puncher. Timing can be incredibly effective.
Some people like that sort of thing. There is actually a skill and intelligence in being able to effectively utilize these techniques and get away...
The fact that they were willing to pay him more is a pretty good reason imo.
