hell if I remember my first spar. that was a long time ago.
3 minutes, 1 minute rest. open class is 3 minute rounds now, so only novices fight 2's. 1 minute rest, we push our conditioning outside of sparring.

it's also a matter of timing. "pulling the trigger" is less important than pulling the trigger when you have an opening.
^this could have hurt your ribs or the cartilage between them. There is a lot of support tissue around there that can get bruised or damaged.
if you are punching and engaged, the concentration required takes your mind off your pain
concussion = nausea
