I'm with you totally. IMO,Ron could have been badly hurt had the fight continued.
JJ does very well in the early going, maybe even dropping Joe. Eventually, though,Frazier's pressure and relentless punching cuts Walcott down....
Muhammad certainly took a battering in his fight with 'The Acorn' But I still score it as an Ali win. By about two rounds.
I was also woken by my Dad telling me of the result in Zaire - "Ali won. He knocked Foreman out in the eighth round" Precious memories.
I was just under four months short of my 16th birthday. At school the following morning all of us kids in the Ali camp were gutted.
Hands - Both men's were extremely fast with the edge going to Floyd.
Feet - Muhammad easily.
In all fairness,Lyle was all over the place when the fight was stopped.
I concur. As I've already said,I think Ken edged it but it was n't the robbery some make it out to be.
If Eddie Futch had still been in Ken's corner,he'd have without a doubt urged him to come out hurling everything but the kitchen sink at Muhammad...
Have n't read his book but I'll definitely check it out.
Thanks Richard. Your posts are pretty good too.
I recall reading somewhere that before he became an iconic figure,Jack was unpopular in some quarters for being a "World War 1 draft dodger"
Muhammad definitely displayed cojones in not going to Vietnam.
It's a "Naw" from me.
Funnily enough I used to work with a guy who swore blind that Muhammad won the first bout and that Joe won the second !...
Ken definitely deservedthe verdict in the first fight by around 7 - 4 - 1. And,like your good self,I'm a massive Ali fan. Interesting that Norton...
Excellent post,Richard. And as I think that I am the "talented poster" you're referring to,thank you very much for the complimment !
Ali was celebrating what was at that time, the greatest moment of his career. If anyone in that Miami ring displayed any disrespect to Louis,it...
I tend to agree with your verdict going on my thoughts whenever I've watched this one - Norton edges Ali out. Ken had maintained his form from...
Watched the second fight again last night. I still give it to Muhammad by one round.
I always did have the feeling that there was a huge mutual respect linking Muhammad and Joe.
Very good match up,Kamikaze. I'll have to think about this a bit.
In the Champions Forever film,Ken said "The second fight could have gone either way. But the third fight, the one in Yankee Stadium,I thought I won"
I consistently have it as 6-5-1 to Muhammad. My favourite bout of their trilogy.
I agree that Michael's superior skillset claims a second victory over Nigel. Benn may well last the distance this time, though.
Supposing that in the rematch between Michael Watson and Chris Eubank that tragic ending never happens. In this alternate timeline,Chris gets up...
