: “I am not going to retire!”
June 26, 2010 by Edgar Gonzalez

“I am not going to retire,” the former world champion Israel Vazquez responded from his home to BoxNoticias.net when asked what his plans were after being defeated at the hands of Rafael Marquez in their 4th fight. Vazquez spoke to his manager, Frank Espinoza, and asked for the fifth fight.

“If Rafa would have beaten me badly and I would have looked really bad, I would have announced my retirement,” Vazquez, who in the meantime has kept busy as a TV color commentator for

Telefutura’s “Solo Boxeo”, stated. “That wasn’t the case, my problem are my brows. That is something that has a solution and I am going to fix it.”

Vazquez is under contract for the next three months by Telefutura to do color commentary on their Friday night series and has decided that after that obligation is over, he will be back in the gym and in the hands of specialists for surgeries on his brows.

“I feel well physically and mentally,” Vazquez added. “I want the fifth fight with Marquez because we need the tie breaker. I think I will be ready in 2011, I need to get operated on and then I need two or three more fights before I challenge Marquez again.”

When asked that if the surgery specialist would recommend for him to retire instead of going under the knife, Vasquez responded, “maybe. I think my brows can be fixed with surgery and for them to be perfect so I can continue fighting.”.....................................STAY RETIRE VAZQUEZ,YOU GAVE US SOME THRILLS, I THINK YOU TIME HAS PASSED YOU BY......................THE SCAR TISSUE ON YOUR FACE WILL NOT GET BETTER!

Izzy's too tough and proud for his own good. I don't want to see how he functions as he ages...it's going to be sad to see.

God damn it Izzy. I wish you still had it, all of us do, almost as bad as you do - but you don't. Be happy, enjoy your family. PLEASE don't put us or yourself or them through any more.

    Don't be stupid Izzy...

..maybe he should fight a 10-12-1 type of fighter, see how he fairs..If he does well, he can make a living beating up Bums.

    I care about Izzy's well-being 100x more than I care about Evander's. I don't give a **** if that statement pisses people off, either.

Holyfield doesn't have eyebrows with scar tissue that's as thick as coffee filters. Plus he has illegitimate mouths to feed.

WOW, that LACERATION over the eye was one of the worsts ive EVER seen....

Vasquez needs to wait for a year to let his fricking scars heal up decently. He's just got too much scar tissue from so many brutal fights already....

I hate to see past it fighters too stubborn for their own good fight on. He gave my boy Rafael three classics and I thank him for that but I care for his health. That cut looked nasty and I could careless about the tiebreaking fight he needs to call it a career soon. Really soon.

This is the part of boxing I don't like. Everyone sees it but him. Just imagine if Lopez did get that fight. He would have seriously hurt Vazquez and forced him into retirement.

Terrible news, I hope his team talk him out of it unless they want to see a legend like this permanently hurt.
