and he came on the scene at a good time to scalp a couple of legends in Tyson and Lewis.

Ibeabuchi is a mirage, perhaps the most overrated fighter of the last 20 years. He had exactly two fights against live bodies, one of which he arguably lost, and this somehow shows that he would beat guys like Lewis or Holyfield, or the Klitschkos. Nonsense to say the least. Based on what he actually did, you could suppose he MIGHT upset a Rahman or McCall, but that's about it.

:good precisely what I was thinking, and that's why he'd be a tough match up for Lewis who was just passing his best IMO.

Just imagine if he'd come around in the 90s though. Bowe-Ike Holyfield-Ike Tyson-Ike Lewis-Ike. All woulda really been sommin :yep

Slow down there son. No one said he'd beat them for sure. My view and im pretty sure everyone else's view is that he would of been a big test for all of the top heavyweights at the time and in the close future. If you'd pick pre-manny Wlad against Ike then your a bit messed up in the head IMO.

I would give him the benefit of the doubt. Two things:

First, he was only 24 when fought Tua and compiled only 20 fights in total, so I do not feel it is right to compare him directly to guys like Povetkin or Harrison, with extensive amateur careers, golden medals and so on. At 24 those guys were either just starting their pro careers or were even still amateurs. It is no surprise Ike still looked raw at this point of his career... it should be equally obvious he would've improved quickly.

Another thing is that he was jailed in 1999. Give him two or three more fights against guys like Grant (there were some rumours about it) and you are in 2000/2001. At this point I'd favour him against (for example) Ruiz, shot Tyson, past prime Holyfield, pre-Stewart Wlad... I'd give him also decent underdog chance against Lewis.

Clever Old-Man Holyfield would outbox Ibeabuchi in 1999.:bbb

But after Lewis 2 of 1999, Old Holyfield became SHOT Holyfield, And Ike would kill him in 2000/2001.:deal

I'd argue that even pre Lewis Holyfield would have been beat by Ike. Holyfield just couldn't resist the temptation to get into a war and at a stage where Holyfield just wasn't quite the same he was before the Bowe trilogy would pay dividends in the end.

Why do you bring up all this criminal black fighters? If you are a supporter of crime, as your idols suggests, then move back to Nigeria or Liberia - we are tired of your criminal idols.

Instead of throwing wild comments that make you seem like a boss on the Internet. Why not answer with intellectual boxing knowledge and well thought about opinions? After all I'm pretty sure that's what a boxing forum is for no:think

Holyfield doesn't beat Ike on his best day, nor the version of Tua that existed before he fought Ike. That fight ruined both men, Tua wasn't a stationary power punching fireplug at the time, he could and did move quickly from spot to spot. He absolutely annihilated Ruiz. From most of the posts in this thread, it's obvious that most of the posters spouting off here never saw Ike or prime Tua fight and still haven't. The question at the time wasn't whether Tua was going to get the belt, it was WHEN he was going to get the chance to take it.

pre 1986 Tyson beats Ike, Holyfield never does and I make Lewis less than even because he was shaky v. power punchers, and Ike was slick and fast enough that he WOULD put serious power on Lennox's chin before the night was thru.

I'm assuming you posted that wrong? A completely untested Tyson wouldnt be ready for an Ike from the Tua fight.

Don't think your giving Holyfield credit here either. IF, and that's a big if Holyfield tried to box Ike rather than go to war (Bowe I style) then I think he should be able to beat Ike In a fairly close fight, bit not without some real shaky moments. However I think your spot on and if Holyfield try's to engage in a brawl with Ike he'd struggle too beat him

No problem, but as you might know all of his threads is about black slick boxers and their greatness above all other fighters.

I've never seen a guy his size & shape who could move like he could & throw the volume of punches he did

The Tua fight is just staggering, one of the best HW fights of the 90s.

Ike clearly had ATG potential but we'll never know how good he could of been.
