I just heard Jean Bédard, the owner and negociator for Interbox, Bute's team. He said that after Pavlik pulled out from their fight, Interbox asked Pavlik's team, then Top Rank, «to send us a counter offer and to set the fight in the USA. Obviously, it never came....» These are the words from the horses's mouth. Just to add to how bad Pavlik ****-up his career.
Didnt Pavlik just see the numbers offered and told them all to go **** each other including Top Rank.
Pavlik was guaranteed 40 % of all the money... What the **** was the problem ??? You can't pay a guy an amount of money you ain't making... These are the figures to go by that were set in stone (guaranteed) : The Bell Center in Montreal can make $100 per sold seat on average. Bute averages 13 000 - 15 000 per fight. Even if Pavlik could help sell more, they can't pack in more for boxing than around 18 000 because of the city's & fire department's safety protocol. Showtime drops in $2 million per fight right now. So the guarantee is based on : SHOWTIME = 2 million GATE = 1.375 million (13 750 paying fans X $100 per ticket) 40% of $3.375 million = $1 350 000 There's no way that fight could make more in the USA because it wouldn't be on PPV and the gate, even in AC wouldn't pack in more than 8000-9000. COMMON SENSE.....That's all it takes from this point on to understand why Pavlik was lucky to get a 40% guarantee of the original chunk of change.
After all that **** went down, I'm sure Pavlik went on a massive bender & Top Rank had no way to get ahold of him.
Bad move by Pavlik no matter how you slice it. I don't believe the part about Lucian "Backyard" Bute fighting in the US, though. His ref isn't licensed here.
Jean Bédard went on radio at around 5:45 ET and he was there to confirm the anouncement of the Bute vs Johnson fight. When towards the end of the interview, Bédard said that, when KP turn his back at the hole thing, Interbox ask team Pavlik to give them a counter offer and to set the fight int the States, but they did not response. So, I guess the answer is yes, after.
Negotiations between Interbox and other promoters typically breakdowns as follow: Interbox: We offer you X amount of money, etc. Promoter: Not enough. Interbox: Alright then, how much would be ''enough''? Promoter: ...
My take on this, and just from reading an interview with Kelly, is that Kelly knows he ****ed up. I could be wrong on this one. He kept repeating 'miscommunications' and saying it was no one's fault but his. Just my take on it. Life goes on.
