I think we should shut the Mayweather talk down now. Nobody had even thought about discussing him except for the Floyd-Marquez fight farce which wasn't even elaborated upon.

Then this guy Boxing_Master came in and injected him into the thread and has the potential to derail an otherwise one of the better threads here in months.

This is about Morales-Marquez and of course by extension Barrera and Pacquiao.

    Good call. :good

In fact I'd say we should keep a lid on Pacquiao or Barrera tangents as well except as relates to either one's matches with Morales or Márquez.

Alright, we have officially reached "big thread" condition (six pages under the default fifteen-posts-a-pop view, making it so that everything beyond the 5th page is truncated under "Last Page" when browsing the sub-forum) and there have been precious few breakdowns of the fight(s) and how they differ over the epochs. :rosstheboss

Come on, people. Less "so-and-so was generally blah-blah" platitudes, more applied critical thinking and imagination put into painting a picture of how these clashes would've gone!

Even the offerings from CST80, who so far has come the closest to fulfilling what I asked for, were really just sentence-long blurbs on each.

I've seen multiple paragraph essays written on MUCH LESS INTERESTING fantasy match-ups. Let's go.

Actually to be fair tinman wrote a bit about each one and how they contrasted, too.

Corrales was drained in 2001 at the weight against Mayweather - but not in any of the fights he fought there in the following 3 years (including his title win against Casamayor)? This is how stupid the argument becomes sometimes.

    Whoa, this is kinda cool..

Obviously just a video game simulation and nothing to read into, but still interesting to watch and think about.

This game (FN: Champion) was released in 2011 and the video uploaded in 2012, so it was recorded sometime in between there...and the person who made it says during their intro narrative that it was meant to be a simulation of "if they fought ten years ago", placing it about 2001-2002. :think

...I agree with the person in the comments who says this is too aggressive for Márquez (and not enough for Morales) to consider it a very realistic portrayal of them - so, imperfect to say the least, but still fun to have a look at.

I would be FURIOUS if this match happened but was sullied by Joe Tessitore and Teddy Atlas making the calls. :fire

Even in the video game, stupid ass Tessitore messes up! Start of round three, Morales nails Márquez with an overhand right.. "Oh, and he's got something for him! It's a left hand!" :patsch It would have been just the same if those goons were doing the play by play in real life. Good thing it never would have been on ESPN.

I have a love-hate relationship with Lampley but his enthusiasm (and passion for the lighter weights) in a Morales vs. Márquez would have fit like a GLOVE.

I have always said Morales beats Marquez from 122 to 130 from 135 up obviously it's Marquez all the way.

    :rofl:rofl:rofl

On a side note, I loved that they brought back translator Ray Torres for the Morales-Maidana fight. Even if that guy made every single word up that he translated, his enthusiasm was unrivaled!!

I think Morales is an ATG...and I'm a unabashed apologist about it. I like all the three amigos!!!
My pick here is Marquez for all three epochs IB mentioned. In the first period it's a close fight...Morales' pace v Marquez's accuracy...I think Morales forces a pace, but JMM can keep that pace, and scores with the better punches. As the epochs go on...the gulf begins to widen a bit more.
JMM 3-0 for me. I think JMM was avoided for a reason initially...

What is it Marquez said to himself when Manny Pacquiao hit him while he was down on that 3rd knockdown?
"Me la vas a pagar cabron!"

    Now that's badass!!! :yep
