Óscar Negrete vs. Ernesto Guerrero, 6 rounds @ bantamweight

 

Round 1

Negrete is pushing into Guerrero with his left forearm and bashing him with heavy rights hands delivered from above, cocked up by his own brow. Guerrero is squeezing his gloves over his face and pinching his elbows together over his chest, not giving Negrete much to land clean on but not firing back either. A bit of leaning in and grinding on the inside. Negrete putting in work but not getting carried away.

Negrete is changing it up, steering Guerrero into the ropes with his bulldozing left forearm, clubbing with the right, and then switching to low underhanded body shots accompanied by knee dips to get extra depth and score beneath Guerrero's elbows when he goes into his shell. Guerrero is patiently waiting for spots to counter, landing a nice uppercut on the jaw as Negrete is leaning inside working the body. Not anywhere near enough from Guerrero, though he is defending himself well and doing clean work now and then when he bothers throwing.

Round 3

Negrete is starting to lay the power shots on more thickly. Negrete is throwing short left and right uppercut wrecking ***** into the gut and then swinging both arms overhand to smash into Guerrero's shoulders or upper back when he is twisting away. Negrete lands a nice left upper-hook on the solar plexus and Guerrero takes a knee, and stays down.

Negrete is considered a big prospect for Colombia - a rarity in the land of banger types with heavily padded records that crumble in the light of day when they venture beyond their borders to step up.

His fight tonight was televised back home and has been the buzz of the Colombian sports media all week.

In the amateurs he was very highly touted but suffered "always the bridesmaid" syndrome, doing well at continental level but falling short in Olympic qualifiers and eliminated by wide outpointing in his first bout in the world championships. Still, compared with the usual boxers produced by Colombia he's virtually their version of Rigondeaux.

 

Negrete is now 12-0 (5). This was his fifth bout of 2015, and his ninth straight under the banner of Golden Boy Promotions, who snapped him up at 3-0.

 

Christian González vs. Alejandro Ochoa, 8 rounds @ lightweight

Ochoa has fought against four straight undefeated prospects and busted three of their cherries! :shock:

 

Golden Boy needs to fix these constant technical issues. Every ten seconds the stream is flashing a "lost signal" message. :-(

Round 1

González stuns Ochoa early and bullies him into the ropes with jabs and 1-2s at the head and uppercuts on the body. Ochoa is fighting his way off the ropes consistently with helicopter-rotor combos moving forward and then flashing a double left jab as he moves laterally. González is tucking his chin and dipping forward, hitting the body and timing a big left hook in the exchange as Ochoa stands his ground to battle him off.

Round 2

González is chopping away through Ochoa's fatter punches, landing hard uppercuts 2:1 against Ochoa's wide hooks. Ochoa is badly hurt. González jumps on him as he staggers drunkenly into the ropes. Big volley of power from González. Ochoa starts to fall and González drills him twice more on his way down!! OUCH!

As usual with Fight Night Club, all the Golden Boy prospects being showcased remained perfect - all but one by KO.
