Dayum. Getting hit with that many unanswered shots will definitely get any ref to jump in.

The writing was on the wall, the ref did Liam a favor. There was not much of a protest from his corner.

He fought smart for the first 2/3 rounds but then let his heart get the best of him. Hope he gets another shot.

Wilson was getting a career ending beating. Probably still did. Ref protected his health.

The brutal ass beating started in round 6.

Honestly I think it was a but of his heart and the body shots that Valdez was landing. I think after round four he wasn't on his toes as much because Valdez was putting in that body work.

The payoff for all the bodywork clearly manifested itself in round 6. Round 7 was an even more brutal round and based on that I was convinced Liam wouldn't see the end of round 8.

Damn, the beating looked worse from that angle.

I woke up and read this thread and it sounded like it was some awful early stoppage and then I just watched the highlights and the finish and it looked perfectly acceptable!

Wilson himself looked utterly out of it(Not as in concussed, but just beaten down and exhausted) when the ref stepped in, and had no complaints.

Wilson has to be the dumbest boxer in the world. Hus plan A was working well....stay outside, jab, uppercut and pressure the old guy so he gassed late. But NOOOOO.....let's change and fight up close, where my opponent has the advantage. Let's trade punches with a stronger boxer.

    Dope.

Agreed. The body shots took some toll and before Rd 6 Liam looked worn. Valdez wasn't fresh either

    This was one violent fight

Not when he's fighting an Australian, a Brit, a Ukrainian, a Brazilian etc. he isn't. A Mexican fighting a non-American in the US is essentially a home fixture for them.

I don't understand why Wilson gave up his jab and straight shots that were doing a number on Valdez and did half the work for Oscar by getting in close. It's like he got excited when he saw he hurt Valdez that he just forgot HOW he hurt Valdez.

Not it's not. The ref for Navarrete-Wilson was Chris Flores. This ref was Mark Nelson.
Chris Flores was a judge for this fight tho.
