Head clashes have been pretty frequent, as you'd expect when two people collide while both swiveling their hips to load up wide punches at the same time.

Wouldn't be too surprised at this rate if a cut developed and this went to a TD.

 

Madondo fighting to survive, and on paper she likely will. She has never been stopped in a dozen outings (all three losses were on points) and Tazabekova hasn't stopped anyone in either of her two prior contests.

 

Ought to be a shutout for Tazabekova.

 

And indeed it is Tazabekova breezing to a UD. Something about the reading of the scorecards caught the commentators off-guard, you could almost hear their eyebrows raising... maybe one judge gave Madondo a single pity round or something.

 

A pretty unexpectedly excellent Thursday afternoon card, all in all. I highly recommend seeking out replays of Zyryanov-Raximov, Popov-Netesov, and the main event.

Yallyev-Sosa, Ermakov-Zubkov, and Tazabekova-Madondo were all kinda bleh. Mismatches/blowouts.

 

IB funfact: Tigran Arturovich Uzlyan is the nephew of a fighter with the same first and last name (different middle) - Tigran Dzhanikovich Uzlyan. This elder Tigran Uzlyan was born in Georgia (then part of the USSR) but defected to Greece and represented the latter country twice at the Olympics, in '96 and 2000. He was eliminated in the quarterfinals and denied a medal berth at the Sydney games by the legendary Mario César Kindelán, no great shame.

Ooh the plot thickens - Uzlyan scored a measure of revenge today for his brother Avak, who lost to Mazur at 64kg in the amateurs five years ago.

 

This is all that's anywhere not geo-blocked... guess you "had to be there".
