Timur Olegovich Nikulin vs. Ibragim Islamov, 4 rounds @ cruiserweight

 

Timur "Archangel" Nikulin is 7-0 in sanctioned pro boxing, and went 2-1 in bareknuckle during the pandemic. He's an Uzbek born fighter, giving up 2 inches here.

Ibragim "Nikharo" Islamov is 3-0 in pro MMA, making his debut in this sport.

 

The kid from MMA got exposed and threw a tantrum about it. Boohoo.

 

Correction: not Zagorsky. Very similar voice but this guy is a good decade or two younger than our pal "Mikhail Bufferov".

That's weird...Goib's pop from the crowd as as big as Butaev's, if not louder, but Krasnaya Polyana isn't anywhere near Uzbekistan on the map. Is there a large Uzbek population in Sochi? Figured there would be a decided home advantage for Butaev with his exciting style and being the Russian.

 

"No Mercy" has a 4" height and 6" reach advantage over "Fayzi".

14-1 vs. 11-1 - somebody's "one" is gonna be all done! (unless they each gain a draw)

 

First round in the books at just barely midnight local.

He's always juggled 147 and 154, could probably still make it for a big purse.

 

Very aggressive opener from both, Goibnazarov in particular crouching in front of Butaev and spamming power shots, but cleaner and straighter work from Butaev edges the round for him, just. 10-9

 

Lots of gas station wavy man stuff from Goibnazarov, bending at the waist and going "boneless", protecting himself with goalposts and then snapping upright to hurl left uppercut and right hook combos high at Butaev's head. Butaev with a more traditional boxing posture, countering with hard straight right leads to body and head.

Goibnazarov hurt a few times late but downplayed it and kept bouncing around on his toes.

Butaev muscles Goibnazarov into a corner and begins to just smash his barn doors in with left hooks. Goibnazarov shrugs and makes a "meh" facial expression when Butaev pulls away for air, but - that shocked & winded him, no doubt.

Butaev all over him. Goibnazarov tossing some go-away uppercuts while squirming against the ropes in something akin to a Philly shell, but can't leverage anything to gain Butaev's respect.

Three zip.

Like his countryman in the nominal co-main Dusmatov, and like many an Uzbek boxer, Goibnazarov's style was engineered for success in the amateurs but comes up wanting in the paid ranks.
