Ivan Vyacheslavovich Abramov vs. Alexey Viktorovich Khanov, 4 rounds @ bantamweight

 

The deep undercard, btw, is on матч боец (Match Fighting); the main card will air on regular матч from 10am EST/5pm local time in Ufa.

 

Both of these little fellas are making their pro debuts.

Abramov had a lengthy amateur run, winning more than he lost although he didn't really have much international success. Khanov was more of a .500 competitor domestically, and was kayoed once by Olympic bronze medalist Vladimir Nikitin.

 

Abramov the bigger, stronger, faster, busier, and more organized and overall effective fighter to my eyes. Should cruise to a UD4, barring any faultlines in Khanov's jaw (as getting stopped with headgear is always sus and never a good look - and he was no spring chicken back then, already 27, so it can't be written off as just him being a scrawny teenager; it being a legend in Nikitin would make it a bit more forgivable, if Nikitin were a huge puncher).

 

...and he does exactly that. Don't speak Russian, so couldn't understand the scores, but assuming it was a full 3/3 slate of 40-36's.

Khanov had some moments in each round, catching Abramov with the occasional left hook in exchanges or driving him into the ropes momentarily with shoeshines on the body - just couldn't mount any significant offense for sustained periods, nor keep from getting wailed on himself. Too much smaller and slower, and less skilled. He'll probably end up being a gatekeeper on regional shows. Abramov's ceiling is harder to predict, as he'll need to be seen in with a stiffer test first.

 

Danis Ruslanovich Gabdrafikov vs. Vladimir Villievič Fleischhauer, 4 rounds @ welterweight

 

Round 1

Hot damn! Local fave Gabdrafikov (born and raised in Ufa), making his pro debut, comes out gangbusters, knocking Fleishhauer down in the opening half-minute with a frenetic attack of straight high-velocity punching - right jabs on the chest setting up big line drive left crosses into the chin of the veteran. Fleishhauer - a 39 year old with a 1-7 record who started his own pro career with an upset of Kazakh prospect (later turned WBO European title challenger, and now a journeyman) Alexakndr Zhuravskiy in 2015 but winless since - is using quick footwork to stay in position to fence with Gabdrafikov using a nice stiff left jab, but Gabdrafikov is showing composure far beyond his youth and experience, knocking down Fleishhauer's left jab in midair with his right glove and then reaching up with serpentine alacrity to hook off the parry. Gabdrafikov lands a lightning fast combination, diving left hand lead on the belly followed by a right hook up top, catching Fleishhauer unawares, dropping him. Fleishhaur grins at the kid to show respect, and then minds his p's and q's defensively the rest of the way.

20-17 Gabdrafikov, controlling range, impeding Fleishhauer's left jab by constantly rolling his right fist around it, and blasting him with left hand counters up top anytime he makes a move to dive in with any shots of his own. Fleishhauer hanging back, looking for openings, feinting, but unable to score without getting hit with interest.

 

30-26 Gabdrafikov, has now bloodied the nose of the still game but outmatched Fleishhauer. Lots of showing off defensively from both, arms down and standing just beyond reach to slip jabs with upper body movement alone, once in a while looking to surprise one another with rear-hand shots off the hip, both just a little too savvy and swiftly reactive for anyone to strike home with something major.

Both feeling the pace a bit in the last, a few clinches now muddying up affairs, but for the most part they're still moving and jabbing spryly. Closest and most uneventful round, but the kid still nicks it, good for a clean 40-36 sweep from unofficial judge IB.

 

...as well as from the official judges, it would appear. Ufa crowd happy to see their boy go ahead 1-0.
