No idea who's supposed to be getting fed to whom in this one tbh. Subkhankulov is 1-0 and Vedmed is making his pro debut.

 

10-9 Subkhankulov, another very powerful aggressive southpaw Ufa native, like Gabdrafikov in the previous contest. Theme of the day.

 

Subkhankulov a bit over-eager, wasting a lot of shots on the front-foot as Vedmev puts up goalposts and skitters away, but plenty is still getting through. Wonder if he can maintain this work rate over the full six, if we get there.

Subkhankulov just abusing Vedmed whenever the Crimean stops his feet or even shifts down a gear. Vedmed boxing to surive, not win. Getting virtually blanked, except for a few desperate overhand rights in the pocket when Subkhankulov presses him into the ropes, meant to aid his escape more than score or mete damage.

Vedmed getting ripped with left uppercuts on the belt line and right hooks on the orbital bone, steamrolled into the ropes, attempting to burst free with flurries but unable to penetrate Subkhankulov's defense often, nor hurt the southpaw when he does. Vedmed no longer moving around the ring as much, perhaps no longer able, but still managing to be negative, clinching a fair bit now.

40-36 Subkhankulov

 

Subkhankulov now seeking the big kibosh, leaving his jab extended and jousting with it to prod Vedmed into the ropes and teeing off with left handed bombs, alternating between uppercuts, looping, straight and overhand shots. Vedmed is soaking up punishment here, causing the ref to squat in close, hands on thighs, having a discerning look - but thus far no cause to jump in and wave it off, as Vedmed keeps his gloves up and is able to muster a timely flurry or jump in to clinch whenever things start looking bad.

50-45 Subkhankulov

 

Subkhankulov is patrolling hemispherically around Vedmed, changing directions every few steps and sticking in jabs and left crosses to pierce the guard. Vedmed able to parry some of the jabs with his own, and dive in with the odd spearing right on the chest before grabbing Subkhankulov in a brief hold, stalling and running out the clock.

No kayo for the hometown boy again today, but not for lack of trying.

Big boost in experience and skill level (and parity in matchmaking) here from the prelims.

 

Not a ton separating them, but nonetheless a clear edge in quality for Agrba throughout.

Got him up now 30-27.

 

Hilarious moment in the 4th where Maik has been walked onto the ropes under heavy fire, and tries extricating himself by throwing a lead right at the face of Agrba, then leaving it out and just flicking his wrist to feather it at the face in a rapid blur and obscure Agrba's vision, getting a chuckle from the commentators. Maik defending and countering well but more thrown and heavier shots landed from Agrba. 40-36
