Myshev is the southpaw in gold trim, an 11-0 hometown product of Moscow. Petrov, taller with the bowl haircut, is 6-2-2 and hails from Moldova.

    Round 1

Myshev is holding out his right elbow in an exaggerated isosceles, horizontally out from his flank in a weird modified Philly shell (Moscow shell?). He is slinking around the ring backwards, a little at a time, luring Petrov in with his low hands and slow shuffling movement, and then springing traps with either right jabs up off the hip or clubbing lefts whipped around from the rear hip and down from overhead like catapult arms. Petrov, struggling to land a jab coming forward, lunging from a wide base, himself turns southpaw in the final minute, tossing jabs at the head attempting to confuse Myshev before jumping in and flurrying at the body.

    10-9 Myshev, close

    Round 2

Myshev is making every strand of Petrov's straight & silky mop flare up as though he were being electrified as he walks him onto counter right hooks popping up from a partial crouch. Myshev sticking with the backfoot pick-'em-off role as it keeps working for him. Petrov dutifully bowing and weaving to either side, desperate to find a way to close the gap without getting hit, but Myshev is routinely quicker on the draw, sharper with his punches, and has a better sense of distance and timing. Petrov for his part taking pinball-paddle slaps at the body whenever he can, even as Myshev's lefts jolt him in the chin repeatedly.

    10-9 Myshev

    20-18 Myshev

The dark blue ring apron combined with the muted lighting scheme in the venue (and the lower body garments of all three men in the ring - both combatants' trunks and the ref's pants - being the inky black of an eternal void) is distractingly bothersome, forcing me to squint. Or perhaps on the doorstep of 40 my excellent vision is just finally beginning to fail me. Oh well, had a good run. Should've eaten more carrots.

    Round 3

Myshev is floating the right jab up from a resting place on his knee, less accurate with it now as he lapses into a cruising tempo, and keeping the left hand mostly holstered. Petrov for his part is still experimentig with ambidextrousness and his switch-hitting combined with his own tiredness has Myshev backing away now without setting as many counter-punching traps. Petrov still rumbling in and working the body, only marginally increasing his output from the first two rounds but that is now enough to put him in the plus column.

    10-9 Petrov

    29-28 Myshev

    Round 4

Myshev is getting worked downstairs, Petrov grinding in behind a long high spearing right jab (remaining southpaw for now) and thumping away on the breadbasket with short uppercuts as Myshev twists himself into a shell. Myshev is taking a few sliding steps away and launching warning-shot 1-2s, but Petrov is able to clap his left in midair and neutralize it to pave himself a clear way forward. Myshev now tries catching him with right hooks below his ear and then, whether missing or landing (or grazing), he parlays that action into aggressive clinching, which causes both men to almost fall numerous times given Petrov's momentum and Myshev lacking the strength to arrest it.

    10-9 Petrov

    38-38

WBC open scoring announced, per custom after 4 rounds - but I don't speak Russian, so. :nusenuse:

(would've been helpful if they put up a graphic, even if the names were in Cyrillic alphabet I'd have been able to figure it out)

    Round 5

Myshev is still looking for a new recipe to regain control, as Petrov continues switching his stance, pressing in behind jabs, shifting his weight in a drooping slouch to either side on the way in, and wailing away on the midsection. A flush 1-2 scores for Myshev and gets a pop from the crowd, burying the jab in the guard and then scuffing his back shoe a few inches aside before launching the left cross, with a slight arc on it, banging into the bridge of Petrov's nose hard. Myshev also sprinkling in right hooks, doubled up to body and head, while pivoting around Petrov in the pocket to aid his escape from those inside trenches where Petrov has been faring better.

    10-9 Myshev, close

    48-47 Myshev

    Round 6

Myshev is shrimping up with his fists tucked under his chin, spine arched, waiting by the ropes for Petrov to cut the ring off and bring the fight to him and then whirling around to square up to him with a spiraling counter left uppercut. Petrov no longer having as much success with body shots, as he isn't throwing as many, electing to force a jabbing duel on Myshev - who refuses to indulge him. Petrov tries getting the stick going with either hand, but Myshev just ducks it and low-tackles in or throws a chopping left hand, either way pushing against Petrov on the inside, guiding him down into an involuntary bow with his glove where he can, sapping his energy with negativity.

    10-9 Myshev

    58-56 Myshev

    Round 7

Myshev is commanding the center of the ring, throwing deterrent right jabs and left uppercuts into the air. He soon has to relinquish the real estate as the determined Petrov comes flurrying in, scoring right hook on Myshev's temple and pecking & scratching at the body with both hands as their heads and chests steeple together up close. Myshev takes a wide step outside and cracks Petrov with a straight left through his guard. Things get a little chippy as Petrov breaks a clinch by grabbing and throwing Myshev by the shoulder. Ref didn't care for that, but lets the action continue. They fence with right jabs, both missing, Petrov advancing, Myshev retreating, until they fall into another clinch. The ref is quick to spatula himself in there before there is any more vigilantism.

    10-9 Myshev, close

    68-65 Myshev

Petrov had a good seventh, putting in serious honest effort - but, as the between-rounds slow-motion highlights confirm, Myshev blocked an overwhelming majority of his stuff and really clobbered him with a few visually striking judge-wowing counter lefts.
