He wouldn’t be drained and weaker as he was at 147lbs, and wouldn’t have to worry about his decreased durability relative to the 160lbs weight division since he’s fighting a natural 147lbder anyway, also Robinson at both weights would be fighting higher than his optimal weight, whereas 154lbs was the perfect weight for him as it’s just high enough to not be drained, but also still be big at the weight.

I have to favor Sugar Ray at both weights. In Robinsons day, middleweight was 148-160 pounds. Robinson was 155 pounds in his final fight with Jake LaMotta. I could see a 155 pound Robinson beating a 154 and 160 pounds Hearns, but Hearns is a very live underdog.

I think Tommy has a great chance if he fought with a different mindset than he usually did which is almost reckless at times, but with a fighter as great as Robinson who would find the opening it would be hard.. Thomas loved the offense so much he left himself open, and he was the reason he lost many of those fights by being too much in love with landing and hurting his opponent. So if he jabbed and fought a simple fight, jab jab jab counter right and when Robinson got in landed his left to the body and then held he would do well. Slow the pace and be content with not landing clean even if you think you can. This was the usual thing Tommy could have done. I think Hearns biggest weakness was himself. He made his defense shaky by disregarding it in favor of offense... All of his losses has a little to do with this.

Much as I love Tommy, no I don't see him winning.
Robbo s power verse Tommy's chin, the Hit man loses.

Sooner or later Ray clips Tommy's chin with a vicious left hook and he's starring at the lights

Robinson takes it at either weight but I agree that Hearns is a VERY live underdog. More at 154 than 160 IMO.

Even if Hearns gives Robi some trouble early on, Robi gets to him @some point.

He wasnt drained and weak at 147 , who told you that? He fought at 147 naturally. He was 145 against Ray and made the weight naturally, he just trained very hard for it

You got your poll options backwards, just sayin ....Tommy loses to SRR at 160, was a bad weight for him
at 154 its 50 -50, as 154 was Tommys best weight

Robbie came in at 157 for Maxim and dominated until succumbing to heat and humidity in an outdoor bout which should've been postponed until that oppressive weather passed.

SRR had tremendous resistance to body shots as well as a terrific chin, and even if dropped, he had amazing recuperative powers, knocking out Graziano later in the same round Rocky decked him in.

For Ray, making weight at 154 never would've been any problem, meaning he's always going to be at full strength.

He ravaged Bobby Dykes underneath and inside.

Tommy has nothing to bother him with.

Robinson was bothered periodically by far lesser punchers than Hearns. Hearns would absolutely bother him and be a real danger, more so than even greats like Gavilan. Gavilan didn't have the power to put him in real trouble, Hearns definitely did.

As you say however, Ray had great recuperative powers and took a fine punch both to body and head. You have to favor Ray to prevail at whatever point in the fights he prevails at but Hearns is going to give him hell until that point rest assured.

Have to go with Sugar Ray in this one. The Hit Man would be a formidable opponent but once he got careless SRR would spot an opening and connect with a big time shot. Once that happened it would be the beginning of the end for Hearns.

Former member John Garfield, who saw Sugar Ray Robinson live, once said Hearns lacked the durability to last against Robinson. This struck me because John, who usually avoided fantasy matchups and gave modern fighters their due, picked Robinson by KO without hesitation.

I would be inclined to agree, though Hearns does represent a great threat to Robinson (or to anyone, really).

He was weaker and more drained at 147lbs than he was at 154lbs.
