and intelligence is always the one who comes out the victor.”

To see a man beaten not by a better opponent but by himself is a tragedy.

“When two men are fighting, what you’re watching is more a contest of wills than of skills, with the stronger will usually overcoming skill. The skill will prevail only when it is so superior to the other man’s skill that the will is not tested.”

Have you ever seen the guy in the gym who does not want to hit hard because he does not want to make angry the other guy?

That's a destroyed will. That's a beaten man. That's what's boxing about. About destoying another man's will. He will not want to hit you, he will not want to be there in the ring, he will not want to get up.

You can see it a lot in pro boxing, it's not as the guy I mentioned in john doe's boxing gym, it is not usually so obvious. But in A LOT of fights you can see easily that the guy does not want to be there in the ring, once you see that you know the fight is over. His will is completely destroyed, he does not want to win any more, he wants to go home.

EDIT: I'll add that you need to understand that if you want the other guy not to hit you hard, what you have to do is the oposite. You need to let him try and regret having tried to hit you hitting him as hard as possible. You need to break his will. And that's where the fight begins.

A guy hitting soft in order not be hit back hard, is an idiot. (an idiot maybe it's too harsh, but at least a guy with not clue about boxing nor life).

These quotes only ring true in a fight which is perfectly evenly matched. In that instance, the Fighter who wants it more will have the advantage.
    Will alone cannot overcome skill.

I love when a bunch of people on a forum talk about what it means to have heart and toughness. Lot of great first hand insight I'm quite sure
