Spot on. Someone like Saunders or Lara won't just stand centre ring and trade leather with someone like Golovkin or Lemieux. To do so would be the height of stupidity.

Using words like "he ran away" as an excuse, imho, is the same as using "he hit me" as an excuse.

The very moment I hear someone saying something like this, I know he doesnt have a clue about the sport. Well, I didnt have to wait for lemieux to say this to know that, though, it's so obvious that he doesnt understand very well this sport once you have seen him fighting.

If a fighter -- in this case, Lemieux -- knows an opponent is going to fight off the back foot and use lots of movement and be on his bicycle, shouldn't the gameplan of said fighter be to counteract those attributes with intelligent pressure and cutting off the ring and setting traps in order to land his best shots on the opponent? Surely Lemieux knew this going into the fight with Saunders.

This is true. At the level Lemieux has boxed at -- true world level against both Golovkin and Saunders -- it's not nearly enough for him to assume he can get in the ring and simply rely on his power to blast opponents out at that level. If he really does believe that, then he's a fool.

Well, the fact that he said that actually gives an additional credit to Saunders - he frustrated Lemiux to an extent when his opponent couldn't accept defeat with dignity. I generally don't like Saunders, but in this fight, with an exception of Rd 12, he was very proactive with traps and landed a lot of punches from Rd 1. Perhaps, Lemieux could have been a perfect opponent for him.

He must have hurt his hand in the changing room because it hit nothing inside the ring , but excuses are to be expected when guys suffer such demoralizing losses like that so lets not go too hard on Lemule. No shame in losing to a a guy who produced a masterclass. :love2:

You could say "he was running away" if you were Parker for example and you faced Hughie Fury who did nothing but run, and landed absolutely nothing other than a pitter patter job.

However Lemieux was seriously hurt in the 8th and in another round later on in the fight. Saunders had some lead in his pencil and he landed some big shots. If the other man is out landing you using movement that is part of boxing. Dont be a basic ***** about it. Only in the 12th did BJS actually run and land nothing. What was Lemieux's excuse for every other round of the fight (other than the 9th), which he lost in the fight?

yeh that fury figt was sick, was wondering if hughie was told it was actually for the world tag title.

but BJ, like canelo, traded plenty.

we should be careful with translation though , lemieux english isnt that good. i am sure 3g doesnt mean his opponents are "good boys" either.

I thought Kellermans post fight interview was sort of cut short because even he didn't want to listen to his whining excuses...he was like "c'mon man cut the BS already!"

If was just running then the ref should be charged with assault, cuz someone was beating Lemieux's ass in there.

Even if an opponent is 'running', shouldn't your job be to catch them? I mean, they have a limited space to run around in so this 'running' business is BS. BJS schooled Lemieux

Running away? Sorry Lemmy, the punch count says otherwise.
