Really good post. One of the few to take a pro-Rocky stance that doesn't descend into ridiculous hyperbole but just lets the man's achievements do the talking.

Joe Louis was known to be humble in the way he spoke about people. I do know he has been quoted saying esentially Rocky would have been a rough nite at any point in his career.

Listen ... Let's discuss Rocky's skills : terrific two handed power, insane stamina, very strong for his size, terrific chin, humongous heart, surprisingly tricky. I've never said or felt he was the greatest of all time but he's for sure one of the best P4P heavyweights and a hell of a warrior ... to classify him as something less than that is ignorant.

    Exactly.

Flynn could’ve taught “Mr Modern Fighter” Evander a thing or two about the “subtle” art of head butting.

Johnson’s defence wasn’t so impenetrable when The Fireman invoked his secret weapon.

also when a guy is hitting you hard & regularly at that, that is both a defencive & offencive weapon, which often neutralizes & negates a fella's work or hopeful work. and that was Marciano.

the Rock, just like ANY Top Man, is the real deal, though not a Stylist or Cutie, obviously very effective all the same.

Such critisisms aren't necessarily wrong, but more just exagerated disdain,
I feel the same about Eubank, but it wouldn't be 100% accurate to leave such feelings into an analysis of "Not Good", he was, of course he was, though he had a lot to be desired as a boxer & a person.

take these statements in context for what they are, which is a Breakdown of Skills, or lack of them, nothing more... the same is 100% applied to Fury and rightly so.

also as many have stated here, they may well not be actually verbatim to what Dempsey 'actually' said.
