You always hear about Jack Sharkey as a fighter that’s had mental issues that would deeply affect how he performed in the ring. Some going as far as to say that Sharkey would suffer mental breakdowns before a fight.

What stories are there with regard to this? What made Sharkey, according to Muldoon; the greatest fighter in the world, from the neck down?

Now I want Sharkey vs. Golota to see who breaks down first. Winner gets unstable Oliver McCall.

Obviously in a sport that involves taking blows to the head, we could be talking neurological issues behind Jack’s emotional/mental problems be it CTE or whatever.

In short we’ll never know for sure.

No stories off-hand (sorry) but I’m inspired by talk of Sharkey & Golota. I say put McCall in the ring at the same time & let them all go at it.

'No boxer will find an opponent half as hard to beat as his own nerves. The nerve system takes more out of most fighters than 100 rounds of battling. No matter how many times a boxer enters the ring during his career he will be on edge. This is not because he is 'yellow' or anything of the kind, but is one of those things that even the medicos can't explain. Often, when I fight in New York, I ride home to Chestnut Hill immediately afterward. Some people have said that this is merely for publicity. That is not true. I do not feel a bit like sleeping after a hard fight and riding is one of the best ways to quiet my nerves.'
