I'm still laughing, at comments like this. In the first fight GGG was pushing Canelo back the whole fight, so your ilk declared it masterful boxing. When GGG chooses to use the same approach in the second fight, your ilk declares GGG was being pushed back. Also, Canelo did not land the bigger punches in either fight. In fact, in the second fight Canelo was clearly stunned late in the fight by GGG and it appeared he might even close the show. Canelo won neither of these fights, but he fought valiantly. Let's leave it at that.
Power punches are the 'bigger' punches , and Canelo outlanded GGG in that department in both fights so your post his based on a falsehood. Canelo fought the first fight thinking he could win by implementing a stick n move game. He corrected that error by being more aggressive in the rematch. That approach fed into Golovkins strengths , but instead of taking advantage of Canelo being right in front of him , he chose to continuously shy away from the action until it was way too late. He botched it , made no adjustments and let the smaller man dictate the pace. The right man won
GGG has no head movement. He got either countered or caught cleanly coming in enough times to only get a draw last year. He had no choice in the matter of fighting off the back foot in the rematch. Listen to his pre-fight talk about what he would do. Instead, he was made to look like a stiff Eastern Bloc fighter who couldn’t adapt to the pros, and he got an L as a result.
Mayweather is the best fighter Canelo has fought. Cotto is another all time great Canelo has fought ditto Shane Mosley. GGG is not the best Canelo has fought by any stretch of imagination but Canelo is clearly the best GGG has fought.
He was not green he was a dominant unbeaten young champion. Mayweather was just better ditto Canelo is better than GGG.
No you cannot compare the Alvarez who was 23 to the Alvarez of now when he is 28. He's improved loads! I have the GGG - Alvarez series 1-1.
You know somebody DKSAB when they compare the smaller 23 year old Canelo, with the larger, enhanced middelweight older version that fought Golovkin.
He is better now and learned from the Mayweather fight and of that there is no doubt. However let’s get it right he was a very good world champion and quality fighter going into the Mayweather fight. I saw him beat Shane Mosley at the the Grand Garden Arena at the MGM Grand Hotel & Casino. What I saw was a real good counter punching boxer punching with excellent ring IQ.
No matter how much of a Mayweather fanboy neek you are, you cannot possibly say Alvarez won the first fight
