Canelo was clearly the bigger man...he did his best... connected some good hook... cause some swellin but nothing like prime Cotto... when boxers got disfigured after spending 12 rounds with Cotto... Kovalev was shot, close fight... but he could handle the power since he was shot...
Cotto was definitely not in peaking form, clearly past his best days, however Cotto was an elite fighter, and a world champion. Also Cotto in his absoloute prime was smaller than when he fought Canelo, and one has to consider that Cotto rejected fighting Canelo in 2014.
