Most GGG fans are GGG fans regardless, there's some crossover, but not to the extent a lot of posters try to make it out to be.

It matters not one jot what Mayweather said, or whether he would have been willing to make the fight. Ward stated explicitly that he would be willing to make 160 for that fight. Begs the question why not for Golovkin? Or at least 164, which is a fair compromise. Answer, because he knows Golovkin is a huge threat and not anything like the payday that Mayweather brings.

Talking about fantasies, the above is a pretty good job. It's two years later on and Golovkin has never fought at 168.

Sure it was realistic, as long as Ward had the dice massively loaded in his favour to ensure himself an artificially high chance of winning. Just like in all his fights. Kovalev was dumb enough to allow such nonsense and look where he is now, robbed of his title and stuck with a rematch clause that Ward refuses to honour.

Ward has an outstanding falkin resume.

GGG has an embarrassing falkin resume.

If anyone deserves and takes a gimme fight here and there, its fighters like Ward who prove that regardless of taking a money fight here and there, we KNOW that they will also fight the fights fans want.

Golovkin has failed to do whatever it takes to give us the fights we as fans want.

I don't think he's been duping anyone. He made his intentions known years ago that his focus is on unifying the MW division. I personally don't think there's anyone that can challenge him at 160 and it's a waste of his time (especially given his age,) but you can't fault a guy for wanting to clean out his own weight class.

I think Sanchez and possibly Loeffler are the one's to blame for Gennady's perception by some fans. They should've never said that "beat anyone from 154 to 168" nonsense. If you make a statement like that over and over again, people are going to hold you to it. Just in the same manner people should hold Canelo to his words following his win over Khan when he had GGG come into the ring during his post-fight interview.

The only thing I'll say about Gennady is him still seeking to fight Canelo does contradict everything he's said up to this point. Alvarez doesn't hold any belts in the division, so unless it's solely for the money I don't see why he should re-route his plans since he's been adamant about wanting to unify all the belts. His focus should be on Saunders after this fight, and once he completes his goal, he can do as he pleases.

it matters a lot actually what Floyd said...unless of course you don't want it to matter

if Floyd has said he would never go to 160 and has never entertained the idea...and has never made an offer to a 160 fighter...than the chance of a Floyd fight at 160 is about 0........but of course you like to live in fantasy world lol

I know Gennady is Gennady...maybe a bit naïve...maybe doesn't completely understand English and American culture/talk or whatever

but at a certain point you have to reign in on people who speak on your behalf....I don't care who you are.....if ur danny Garcia, Floyd or whoever....when people that represent you start talking that stuff you better put a muzzle on it....at least that is how I operate.....I dunno about some of these guys

Utter nonsense. Golovkin's resume is very good, he has 7 or 8 KOs of top ten middleweights. Not many fighters can boast that. And a win over Jacobs would add to it substantially.

The difference with Ward is that for some unknown reason, all the top fighters fall over themselves to allow him every conceivable advantage in their fights. Every bout in the super six (and indeed of his whole career) on home turf. Dawson coming down from 168 and Paul smith up to 172. Kovalev allowing him to fight in the states with four American officials and the lion's share of the purse? Not to mention three tune up bouts.

By contrast, when it comes to Golovkin, every single opponent worth their salt starts demanding ridiculous concessions. Unlike the passportless Ward, Golovkin has had to pay his dues rather than be handed everything on a plate, fighting in eight different countries during his career. He is about to fight the second best middleweight out here in his home city in front of his home fans and paid him more than his fair share of the purse to persuade him to take his mandatory title shot. We've seen situations where a top pound for pound fighter wanted to fight him for the right to call himself middleweight champion but without actually fighting at the weight. We've seen the Ward negotiations where Ward wanted the fight at his weight, in his country, with no tune ups and half the purse as well. If the fight was staged in Kazakhstan, with three Kazakh judges and a ref, three tune up fights to get used to the weight and Golovkin getting most of the purse, which was effectively the deal Ward got against Kovalev, I'm sure he'd have jumped at the Ward fight at 168.

If failing to do whatever it takes means not allowing ridiculously loaded dice in favour of his opponent then fair does, Golovkin has not done "whatever it takes", though his willingness to get the Jacobs fight made is impressive. But why should one fighter be expected to do "whatever it takes" to make fights and the other be considered to have some divine right to deal with a stacked deck? That is double standards in the extreme.
