    This post reeks of butthurtness.

GGG said Canelo fighting Khan at 155 was bad for boxing
GGG said he would not fight Brook because he was too small
GGG ends up fight a WW at 160, is that somehow better for boxing than Canelo giving Khan the 155 CW?

Ward and Kovalev both agreed to tuneup bouts, GGG flat out demanded a fight against Ward at 164, while being open to fights at the full limit against either Froch or Chavez.

I just wish you, Kush, etc. wouldn't insist on celebrating this fight as if it's a meeting of two ATGs.

I haven't complained about the fight at all (check my post history if you like), and it's a whole lot better than the Islam rumours, but it's not a hugely significant fight. A big fight? yes. Interesting? yes. Fun to watch? yes. Enjoy it, but let's not pretend that this is anything more than a business decision, good money at relatively low risk.

Great fights are not great fights simply because you're a fan of one or both of the fighters.

I do however think that some people are also losing their heads bashing the fight, yes Canelo is not taking a legacy fight, but from a business PoV it makes sense to catch Chavez Jr in one of his disciplined moments, before he loses control again and balloons to 200 lb. BJS would be better but he's probably asking for way too much money, he did that to K2 already.

Rumour had it that there was a 168lb offer with GGG getting a bigger share of the $$$, but in any case, GGG was definitely far less keen on Ward @ 168 lb than Froch or Chavez Jr.

I can understand it though, Ward @ 168 lb is far, far harder to beat than the other two (especially Chavez Jr), brings less money, and if GGG wants to have a chance of winning (I pick Ward btw) he probably has to bulk up a bit, then take it off for Canelo. Whereas for Chavez Jr GGG can just come in close to 170 lb like he usually does.

So I'm not criticizing GGG much for that, in the same way I haven't complained about Canelo-Chavez Jr.

164 right then yep. He wanted some sort of concession against someone as good as Ward if he wasn't going to get a chance to grow into the weight.

I think that having tested the waters with Chavez and Froch which would have been sensible in addition to being a lucrative and entertaining set of fights to prep him for Ward - assuming he won them both - then he should of been ready to fight Ward at the same weight. If he didn't I'd have called him out on his BS.

But to expect him to move up and take on a pound for pounder? Seems a bit much to ask in this day and age. That is why I didn't expect Andre to do that either.

You're either too biased or too stupid to understand my posts but I'm going to give it another shot anyway.

I thought the Khan fight was bad for boxing. I thought the Brook fight also was bad for boxing. I've never defended either. I've criticised both. You know why? Because I'm not an overly biased fool. I won't care if Canelo beats Golovkin or Golovkin beats Canelo. I just want to see the fight.

You however made a total fool of yourself saying an 8m offer at catchweight is a STILL a great offer despite nearly double that being offered minus the catchweight demand afterwards which proved beyond all doubt that the first offer was terrible.

Until you're man enough to admit that the opening offers were BS then nobody can take you seriously.

What makes you think that I am? As boxing fans, and as Mexican fight fans, this IS a fight to be excited about. The two most popular Mexican fighter duking it out on Cinco de Mayo!! All of Mexico and the SouthWestern U.S. is going to be one gigantic fight party. Its what we do.

In terms of legacy, this fight means very little at the moment. In terms of rivalry, it is the biggest one out there right now. This fight has been in the making for at least 5 years.

They are too those fans. Perhaps not you, or anyone who isn't a fan, but if you're a fan of either or both, this fight is GREAT. Try telling the Mexicans that this fight isn't great. lol. This is the MAB-Morales of this era, the biggest rivalry to come out of Mexico of this era.

Agreed. Canelo is still a young fighter, he SHOULD be taking fights that people will pay to watch and make that money.

I don't actually disagree with that, I'll definitely enjoy the fight myself for one. I don't blame anyone for getting excited, I just wish you wouldn't keep bashing Golovkin, who has not done anything worse than Canelo:
    - Brook fight? Canelo fought Khan.
    - Ward non-fight but willing to fight Chavez Jr? Canelo put off the Golovkin fight to Sept 2017 on the grounds that he needed time to move up to 160 lb. Also a business decision.
    - Offers for Sept. 2017? I agree that GGG should take, but remember, the reverse question is true: why doesn't GBP offer 30% straight to get it done if that's approx. equivalent to $15 million. Let's wait and see, I think a deal will be done if it isn't already very close.
    - Canelo was brave when he was young and took on good names? True, and I give him credit for that. Golovkin, however, got stuck with a rubbish promoter when he was younger and had to go to court to escape. Not really his fault there.

I guess we'll have to agree to disagree, but please let me suggest that you and Kush going around about GGGarbage etc. isn't really helping the debate.

Find me a B side fighter who has turned down 8 million for a fight, and I will admit that perhaps 8 mil is not a great offer.

Do you know how much Chavez is getting paid? 6 mil
Do you know how much Canelo got paid against Cotto? 6 mil
Do you know how much Cotto got against Mayweather? 8 mil

But you think 8 mil is a low ball offer?

Please explain your reasoning... Use math and stats please, not emotions and fantasies.

Emotion and fantasy? GTFOH with that ****.

How is this for you - someone offers you 8m with a series of punitive stipulations for something that is proven to be worth 15m without them. Is the 8m offer in that situation BS? My answer as would it be yes as would it be for anyone rational.

@drenlou , please tell this dude that the 8m at 155 offer has been proven to be ridiculous in light of what has been offered afterwards. He doesn't seem to be able to understand me but perhaps he'll listen to you.

-I have zero problems with fighters fighting smaller fighters. Many fighters have done it. My problem with GGG was how he criticized a fellow fighter (Canelo) for fighting Khan at 155, even saying that it was a BAD FIGHT FOR BOXING, then almost immediately drags a WW up two divisions and bashes his head in at the full MW limit.

-I have no problems with catch weight fights for the most part. I have no issue with GGG-Ward at 164, my issue is the double standard, the hypocrisy, and the irony when it comes to Canelo. How is it ok for GGG to ask Ward to come down in weight for a SMW championship fight at 164, yet Canelo asking GGG to come down to 155 was considered a big duck by most GGG fanboys.. lol (ignoring the fact that GBP sent three offers post dumping the title)

-Canelo has put in a lot of work. He has fought VERY HIGH RISK LOW REWARD fighters, he has accepted considerably smller purses against Cotto and Mayweather. Canelo has also proven to be the biggest draw at the moment. Canelo has sold over 50K tickets against a no name fighter to Golovkin's record of 16K. Canelo has sold millions of PPVs in the last 3 years. Why should GGG feel more entitled than any other fighter who has proven to generate much more revenue than him. 8 mil, 10 mil+PPV, 15 mil are all mega paydays, and in MOST cases once in a life time paydays. GGG's biggest payday was against Brook, he got a flat fee of 5 mil. Why does he want 4-5 times more against Canelo?

I only use those terms when I'm responding to a troll post, or referring to trolls.

Heres the thing, do we know what the ppv split was going to be in the offer? Its really hard to talk about whats a good offer and not, without taking that into consideration. That being said, and keeping that in mind...

I actually do think the offer was more than fair.... when one takes into account that Golovkin really isn't a star yet, hes close.... but really, hes not quite at that level yet. Considering boxing is entering a slump. Considering the fight isn't going to break records by any means ppv wise, considering what other big name fighters accept as reasonable purses, and considering Golovkin is indeed the B side..... I just cant see how 10 million wasn't a fair offer.

I mean, that Canelo got less than what they offered G, to fight Cotto, when Canelo is a bigger name than G and was a reasonably big fight itself... says a lot about where this purse stacks up. Golovkin turned down more money to fight Canelo than practically every other established name in the sport has taken for comparable fights.

I just have to call it like I see it and I don't see how to get around that.

Now, what makes it weird is that GBP has supposedly almost DOUBLED their initial offer (pretty much showing that G was wise to not take the fight the first time).... and Ill be honest, I don't get why they did that. What Canelo is offering Golovkin now is one of the biggest purses that a non star, someone who has never had a successful ppv before, and obvious B side, has ever gotten in the sport.

So its pretty weird that GBP would go so far as to double what was already a really generous offer. So while I will definitely say that Golovkin obviously made the right move in turning it down, since the offer eventually was almost twice as much (which is crazy if you think about it), I cant say that the initial 8 million is a bad offer. And if G doesn't take this offer of 15.... it really does fly in the face of reason, just imo.

On a side note, set all agendas aside and lets just think economics for a second, just the business side. sit back and think for a second.... GBP is offering Golovkin 15 million for this fight. 15 million..... I'm sure theres a good recent example that I'm just not thinking of, but really, besides Mayweather Pac, when was the last time any B side was offered that much? And for a fight that surely isn't going to do too much over a million ppvs... IF that. I am not understanding the offer.... Canelo didn't make that much against Cotto. Cotto didn't make that much against Mayweather. Cotto didn't make that much against Pac I believe (we are talking guaranteed numbers) Those are the big leagues of the names in America, and the B sides aren't seeing the numbers that were offered to Golovkin. Business wise, this makes the offer they sent G make no sense to me. And K2 aren't stupid, they would have to be aware of the market, the slump boxing is in, what other fighters make in comparison, ect.... and they turn down 8 and 10 mill?

The ONLY way any of that makes any sense, is if GBP is offering huge money up front, with a completely unreasonable PPV split. Similar to what Mayweather initially tried to do to Pac (when people were saying Pac was stupid to turn down his highest payday of 40 million)

So idk.... will be interesting to see how it plays out. I obviously only speak for myself but if G doesn't take the 15 mill, (which I think they will), I lay the blame on him for the fight not happening. Even if the ppv split is ridiculous..... take your biggest possible payday, win the fight, and then get your money when you have the leverage.

I can agree with that, I've never defended GGG-Brook (unlike a certain poster who apparently thinks it's better than Kovalev - Ward lol).

IMHO they were about equal, Khan never had the size or chin to move up but at least it was 155 not 160 lb. Plus he's a bit of a joke to be honest. Brook did, but fought at the full MW limit.

The duck part was because Canelo dropped the belt and put off the fight until September 2017, needs time to marinate + not really a middleweight. Where Canelo really mucked up was inviting GGG into the ring and promising to fight him next.

Because Canelo-GGG is a huge megafight, simply because a lot of people want to see whether the most popular fighter with one of the best resumes around (Canelo) can beat the most hyped fighter with astonishing power (GGG). I agree that the $15 million should be taken, subject to other terms being reasonable of course.

But the $8 million @155 (risking his hard-earned belts too) is honestly no good, if the fight does 1/3 of MayPac or equal to Canelo-Cotto that's a good deal less than 20%. GGG is not the A-side but he does deserve more than that.

It's an opening offer, no experienced negotiator starts with a good offer. Business does not work that way. Just accept that it wasn't a good offer and that's why GBP have improved it significantly.

There's definitely no ppv upside to the $15 million, GBP called it a flat fee and they gave a perfectly flat fee to Amir Khan.

I think K2 will take it once all the terms are finalized. For all I know they may even be more or less agreed, but K2 and GBP are prolonging the process for media attention.

    Who else does GGG fight?
    - BJS is unreasonable, and even if GGG fought for free there's probably not enough money in the pot to get BJS in the ring. Even cash-cow Canelo found BJS turning down offers.
    - Eubank lost his pen, and has skedaddled to 168 lb.
    - Lara is a possibility, but although GGG is the A-side he won't even get anywhere near $10 million for that.
    - @168 DeGale-Jack is a big fight, but $5-10 million not $15 million and more risky than Canelo too.
    - Ramirez brings even less money and also high risk.
    - Froch is retired.
    - Ward / Kovalev don't bring $15 million and they probably beat GGG.
    - Chavez Jr is a joke if he loses to Canelo. It's not $15 million either.
    - None of the other 160 lb fighters are particularly good, the only way we get this is if one of the idiot organizations order an annoying mandatory.

So, even if K2 are extraordinarily greedy, they will take the $15 million or whatever GBP's best offer is.
