Good and bad just like everything else. Overall though good for boxing. Al Haymon 8/10 Respect he pays his fighters but at the same time production lacking in other areas. Great fights at times If pbc and Matchroom (Eddie Hearn 8.5/10) became allies they could take boxing to the next level.
Cant say Haymon is bad. From a fan's point of view he's ok, good and bad, good free fights, but favourite fighters box 1-2 times a year. For fighters he's good for sure, because you dont see many complaining. Now, some expected Al Haymon too have a bigger impact on the world of boxing, but he didnt really change boxing in either way. The new boxing order of a single belt is far far away. Can't change the system, but if you find its weakness you can use it for your own finacial well being. And IMO thats what Al did with "PBC"
He ****ed up trying to re-invent the wheel and it cost millions. Nobody respects tradition more than American boxing fans. Oversees fights were the only time I didn't see red, white, and blue ropes until Haymon came along and tried changing the scene. It looked weird and uncomfortable for the fighter walks too but he slowly started changing it back. All he had to do was just improve on the Friday Night Fights formula by putting his top fighters in the programming. He actually thought he could create something new and have people accept it because Floyd says his name. I'm glad he learned that nobody is above the tradition in this sport. NOBODY!! I still got major hope in him and his crew but he can't continue to not allow a promoter to promote his guys properly. Wilder is running around here talking crazy because of him mainly. You can't cry racism when your biggest competition is also black, hell Joshua is African so Wilder is really off on that one.
From a fans point of view I would probably say no. Well not yet anyway. His fighters are way too inactive. For the fighters it's great cos they get paid the same amount of money they would make in 2-3 fights just fighting once a year. That model is not sustainable though.
His fighters get paid better because they have no promoter to pay. But Uncle Al is not a promoter. And he encourages a ducking, money is everything philosophy among his fighters. So his fighters are mostly inactive and get stale out of the ring. Fighters with more hunger appear to be leaving him now because they feel they need to fight more and be promoted properly. I think in the end we’ll see a lot of talent he signed got lazy and was wasted. I hope Errol Spence does not end up being one of them. Lomachenko is the opposite of a Haymon fighter. Hungry, ambitious, promoted properly, working for a legacy of glory. By the way, how many of Haymon’s fighters have fought Guillermo Rigondeaux? Answer: None.
But it never happened. All we know is the list of Haymon stars who ducked him. So what you say, as usual, means nothing.
It means plenty. Offering to fight Rigo 2 weights above his weight is not the same thing as fighting him at his weight.
It was Rigo who was asking for the fight not the other way around. Twitter was very active when it came for Rigo to call out Loma. He even said he was willing to move up for Loma since Loma was supposedly ducking him and that if he lost he will give no excuses. His fans and Loma haters said Loma was ducking Rigo and that Rigo will KO Loma. Now after the fight him and his fans plus the Loma haters say Rigo was dragged two divisions up LOL.
Santa Cruz, Frampton and Mares didn't want any part of it at 122, they didn't want any part of it at 126, I don't see why being 4 lbs heavier would make such a difference in their mindsets. As for the thread question, good in some ways, bad in others. He pays fighters well and tries to put them on free tv, but Thurman, Spence, Gary Russell... These guys should be fighting a lot more often. The way I saw it, Spence's performance against Brook was even more impressive than Joshua's against Wlad yet AJ got all the spotlight while Spence sat on the sideline for the remaining of the year.
It was Rigo's fault no doubt but he did indeed come up 2 divisions to fight. It's kinda like when Ward fought Dawson at 168, it was Dawson who wanted to fight Ward at 168 and he called Ward out and he agreed to move down and fight at that weight. With that said Ward really never got much credit for the win.
