It was the wild west back then. It was anything goes. Today there are rules that is (supposed to be) enforced. It is so many years ago that the prizefighters of that age carry a romantic glow to me.

I dont like dirty fighters today. It doesn't matter if they are called Hopkins, Ward, Lummox or Huck. Some people take pleasure in watching butts, rabbitpunches etc. I dont.

Interpret that how you want, but that's how I see it.

Nonsense. There were most certainly rules, they were enforced differently but it doesn't follow to say that certain rulebreaking tactics are acceptable in one era or unacceptable in another. Either you find the tactics themselves to be abhorrent or you are fine with them.

Doesn't make much sense to me. Fouling is one thing, it's a part of the game. Boxing is a fight and fights get rough. This sterile rule attitude has killed off infighting almost competely. And some of the knock-down drag out excitement of the game. Regardless as to whether you thought Ward-Bika said something about either fighter IMO it was pretty damn fun to watch.

Pretty much every all time great fighter skirts the rules one way or another. It's inevitable in a combat sport contest.

As I said it was wildwest romance to me. You dont have to understand it. It's just the way it is.

Infighting killed off? Chavez-Rosario, for instance, could have been fought in a phonebooth and there was any fouling that I remember.

You don't remember any fouling in Chavez-Rosario? I strongly suggest you rewatch that ***** if that's the case. And yes infighting skill is by and large dead. Why do you think guys have no idea how to deal with Hopkins, Ward, and Bradley other than try and clinch and slug their way out?

There's a difference between infighting and fouling. Leading with your head and holding and holding and hitting is NOT infighting my man. That's fouling. That's what Hopkins and Ward and to some degree Bradley excells in. Now Hopkins he knows a lot more about infighting than the other two and he doesnt have to foul but he does. Chavez knew a lot as well even measured against prior eras.

Why it seems as if infighting is a lost art I have little idea. Maybe it's the shorter fights, the change in AM-game or maybe PED's that has increased stamina and output. Who knows.

Well it is a long time since I watched Chavez-Rosario. Was there significant and deliberate fouling? Was there a couple of blows south of the border perhaps? I'm quite sure it wasnt a foulfest by any standard or...???
