Johannson lost every round, he hit air the whole night. In the 7th round his face a bloody mess, the referee stepped in and stopped it. Ingemar Johannson was down twice in the 4th round and twice in the 5th. He tried all night to land Ingo Bingo but Ali flew in and out of range so fast it was like he was superman without the cape. Ali's sharp punching opened up cuts under his eye early. Johannson did land one right in the 2nd round, but it didnt seem to have all of his pop in it and Ali took it and said to johannson "Is that all you got?". After the fight the Interview said to Ali "So how does it feel to make the Sweet 16." Ali said "Well, Sweet 16 aint sweet witout Me in it." Interviewer said "So are you saying your gonna win it" Ali replied " Im the greatest, Im the greatest and Im knocking out all Bums. And ill knock you out too if you get smart with me." Interviewer laughing said "You have James J Jeffries next. any comment" Muhammad Ali replied " I have who? Jeffries? Jeffries is the slowest and clumsiest heavyweight champion of all time. I will nickname him the Wild Boar. Because he just charges in everytime with his head out and his big teeth gritting like he ready to tusk someone. No defense. No skill. He just charge in with his big body. Where the Wild Boar at right now? I better teach him a thing or two." Johannson, available for comment afterward said "He just ran, he no good a fighter. He got no heart. He all Lip and no fight. He knew if he trade with me, I knock him out with my right." Interviewer "So Ingo what are you gonna do now" Ingo looked over at this Hot Blone in the stands...Winked....Then looked back at the reporter smiled and walked away. Knockdowns Scored : Ali- 4 Johannson- 0 # 4 James Jeffries W Split Decision # 5 Max Schmeling- In a very controversial decision, James Jeffries is advancing to the Sweet 16 with a split decision victory over Max Schmeling. Most Ringsiders believe Schmeling did enough to win the decision with his better boxing and sharper punching, but the late knockdown he suffered appeared to be the difference and the judges favored jeffries aggresion. It was a very cautious fight the first five rounds, neither fighter willing to engage out of respect. In the 6th Schmeling opened up with some right hands, but Jeffries took them well. In the 9th Jeffries hurt schmeling with a couple body shots and a big Left hook. Going into the 12th Schmeling was slightly ahead. Jeffries was applying more pressure, but schmeling with his sharper more accurate punches and superior skill was getting the better of jeffries. Jeffries strength seemed to be wearing max down, and he landed the best power punches of the fight. In the 14th, schmeling was caught with a big left hook, Jeffries followed it up with a right to the body then right to the head and schmeling dropped in a ackward position to his Hip. Schmeling cleared his head got up at 6, but as jeffries bore in he left himself wide open and schmeling landed some big punches on jeff trying to finish him. In the 15th, both fighters were told win this or go home. Yet neither seem to make his mark, it was an even round. Neither held the advantage and neither wanted to let there hand go too much. Schmeling landed the best punch of the round a sharp right to the head, but Jeff like the whole fight took those punches well. The bell rang. The judges cards 144-141 Schmeling 144-141 Jeffries 145-143 James Jeffries! Jeffries advanced to Sweet 16!!! Reporter said "congrats James on making the sweet 16". Jeffries replied "It is an honor to make it to this round in the tournament with so many great fighters, but I am not done just yet." Reporter said "So Ali predicted he would finish you in eight. what do you have to say to that? Jeffries Laughed "Ali's dont shut his mouth. hes a fast kid, but I run the 100 meter in 10 seconds flat. Kid can't run from me. Im too big and strong for this kid. I once picked up a moose on my shoulders and sprinted 9 miles with it to my house. No big deal." Schmeling's manager Jacobs, outraged with the decision screamed into the camera "We been Robbed!!" then schmeling after saying "I thiiink I won, I show im mouuuch better boxer than him. but Jeffries fought a great fight. cungratuuulations to him" giving us a smile he walked into the locker room. Knockdowns Scored: Schmeling 0 Jeffries 1 # 3 Lennox Lewis KO 5 # 6 Peter Jackson- In a great fight here last night, Lennox Lewis knocked out a game peter jackson is a very competitive bout that was even on the scorecards going into Round 5. Peter Jackson's fast left jab and 1-2 gave lennox problems all night, it disrupted his rythm, and jackson's timing was perfect. Lennox for the first 4 rounds did everything he could to knockout the little man with his trademark right, but Jackson's slick movement and excellent blocking skills offered a antidote to lennox's right hand. This writer thought Lennox was going too right hand prone, which was holding him back. He was too aggresive, not respecting the little man enough and Jackson suprised him. In between the 5th round Emanuel Steward told him "Alright lets get back to smart fighting now. You lost that last round, your behind on the scorecards. lets open up with the left hook, I want to see combinations." Lennox came out and when Jackson thew his 1-2 Lennox blocked the right, then came back with a viscous left hook landed square on jacksons jaw. Jackson stumbled into the ropes lennox stalked his prey and landed his own vicsous 1-2 jab straight right. jackson fell forward onto his stomach down and out for the 10 count. Lennox said "Man, he was a tricky boxer. His Jab was the best I have faced. I knew once I landed the left hook, he was hurt. That setup the finishing touch. Peter is a great fighter though, it took my best effort to beat him. I have tyson next, and I am going to have to be at my best to beat him too. I known him for a while now, what a puncher man. I remember watching him in the 80s thinking, whos gonna beat this kid man this guys tough i hope i dont have to face him. But now, I am ready for him. So bring it on". Jackson, who was available for comment said "That big *****, he sure licked mee! Ill be dammed if dat boy dont win it." Knockdowns scored Lennox 1 Jackson 0 # 2 Mike Tyson TKO 3 # 7 Tim Witherspoon - Well a lot of pre fight trash talking by Tim Witherspoon. Suprisingly Mike Tyson did not fall into his game other than giving him childish stares back at him at the press conference. Spoons Bark was alot more severe than his Bite and Tyson thoroughly destroyed Tim last night. In the first and 2nd rounds, Witherspoon bore in slowly hiding behind his high shield while tyson crept in under his esteemed PeekaBoo. Spoon showing no fear early came out throwing aggresive overhand rights which Tyson blocked and countered to the body. Tyson continued to throw punches but had trouble hitting Tim's head and Tim continued to throw haymakers and get physical in the clinches with Tyson. Tim kept Tyson at bay with his jab, but tyson bobbed and weaved nicely continuing to attack the body. Tyson landed some thudding combinations in the first two rounds but they mostly hit Spoon's gloves. Then in the 3rd round, things changed. After double jab combo was blocked by Spoons gloves, Tyson unleashed a devastating right uppercut which landed flush and backed Spoon up, Tyson then pushed forward and threw a blistering 5 punch combination right hook left hook to the head right uppercut followed by right hook to the body lastily followed by a straight right hand. Tim's legs turned to jelly he walked 5 steps before falling into the ropes. He climbed up on his feet using the ropes at 7 and tyson was on him trapping him on the ropes and digging everything he had into him. Only the ropes kept tim from going down, tim was now taking unessecary punishment. Tim Finally goes righ through the ropes onto his back and The Referee stepped in and stopped the figh immediatley as tim's corner rushes to cure there injured fighter. Afterward in the interview Tyson was asked are you satisfied with your performance? Mike said "O most defintley. most defintley. It was part of my plan all along. I was suprised by how hard to hit he was in that turtle shell defense. So I started mixing up my combinations to the body. and when he tried covering up the body shots, I snuck some big shots to his head. As soon as he put his hands up I saw his eyes and hit him right in the eyes Larry. I must take my hat off, he is a very tough individual. I didn't want to knock him out, I wanted to leave it up to him whether he wanted to get knocked out or not. He is a proffessional." However while in the lockerrooms a cameraman snuck in and happened to capture a Audio recording of Tyson talking to some of his friends. It was the following "He talked a big game before the fight, but I made him my ***** during it. He wasnt no better than tubbs or thomas. When I go out tonight Im going to put a leash on Spoon's neck and drag him around. Hahaha". A thoroughly beaten Spoon, with a icepack on his face was confronted by interviewer Spooned politley asked for the Microphone and then said into it "**** You King!!!"....dropped the Mike and then stormed out of the arena. Knockdowns Scored: Tyson: 2 Witherspoon: 0
I agree with all the outcomes except Lewis Jackson. Much more interesting fight. You obviously have these fighters worked out. The post fight coments are spot on.
