A better way to phrase it would be that it still has failed to happen again since the early 90s. Lesnar was on before the first commercial break on at least 3 ESPN shows, and heard about him on sports radio as well.

I hope boxing can get back there too, but in reality, its just not, not in America.

If you believe that the money reported to the commisions as a fight purse is how they earn their real salary, you don't get it.

During the UFC vs Couture lawsuit there was a cashed check reciept for $500,000 just as a locker room bonus because Dana liked the fight. Randy, GSP, Chuck, and a few others get cuts of the PPV that end up in the Millions.

The top boxers get paid way more, but there are more guys making a comfortable living in MMA than boxing, and they are doing it quicker.

UFC's rise has been meteoric. To say that 1.5 million buys is disappointing is crazy. Considering it ranks it among the top PPVs of all time, that says a lot for a sport that is in it's infancy when compared to boxing.

When you compare it to the only other BRAND that does ppv its pretty ****-poor. The WWE does 2.5 to 3 million easy on their ppv. Lets look past the fact that its not really a sport, but its a brand that spends time pushing the whole thing instead of one fighter or one fight.

My point in making the thread was all the talk that it would do these massive numbers. 1.5 isnt a disappointment when your looking at 1 to 2 million buys, but when they start talking like its going to be one of the biggest ppv's then 1.5 is a disappointment. As I said in the open post, should boxing ever put on a card that offered the heavyweight title and the p4p best fighter it would do HUGE numbers. For a few reasons...

EXAMPLE Im a huge boxing fan, have been since I can remember, but I have not bought a heavyweight PPV fight in many many years, but I have got every ppv that has been with any fighter in the p4p top 10. So while Tyson vs Lewis did huge numbers many boxing fans stayed away, as some do when you have smaller fighters. Put it together and they all come out. Floyd vs Oscar did 2.5 million buys and had you put Wlad Klit on the card it would have picked up another 200,000k then throw in another high profile fighter and pick up another 100,000 to 150,000k now your looking at 3 million buys. Because unlike UFC or MMA in boxing the boxer does make the difference, it not merely the event.

Too many holes to address, but you are just wrong about the first part. HBO and Showtime both have PPV brands that are a seperate part of their coroporations. They do worse per year than the UFC.
