You really expected 2+ million just because a SHOT version of Mosley was fighting Alverez?

And before the fight, a lot of people were mentioning that Floyd was fighting a past prime Cotto who was destroyed by both Margarito and some little guy named Pacquiao.

You don't think that takes away some of the sting ?

Pac fought a Once KO'd version of Cotto who people thought only lost because Margarito' plastered him. As for Floyd, Cotto was seen as damaged goods because not only did Margarito plaster him, but little Pac destroyed him.

Floyd tried to wipe that clean by saying he thought Cotto was Undefeated and fighting Cotto at his natural weight of 154, was healthier for him. And Cotto would be at his best.

You really think people bought into that?
If so, then that's brilliant work on Floyd's part.

    1.5 is very good.

enlighten me. How is having Saul Alvarex o the undercard on Cinco de Mayo not likely to boost up sales a bit.

How is that not a valid point?

Firstly the 1.5 Million is a big achievement Floyd holds the #1 PPV of all time & #2 non heavyweight PPV (the one in question) Also this figure was achieved in a recession where people are cutting their spending back on luxories which PPV definately falls into!

Not only that but its the amount of money he is charging for PPV $59.99 for standard and $69.99 for HD. So even "if" Manny was able to do this with Cotto (which I don't believe he could) it still would be more impressive for Floyd as his charge is more expsensive.

Also the undercard doesn't count towards the PPV people do not spend their money on the fighters that are on the undercard the fact is they are on the undercard is because they (at that particular stage in their career) cannot sell a PPV event on their own. Not to mention the undercard was fairly weak.

Mike Tyson had JCC Sr / Trinidad & Pacquiao on his undercards no one mentions this when talking about his figures, why? because they did not contribute to the PPV....people are only mentioning this now in an attempt to descredit Floyd.

undercards are added bonuses......no one would have bought Shane vs Canelo as a main event or Quintana vs Latimore so lets at least be reasonable here.

Ofcourse they would like to break Oscar & Floyd record but the fact is Cotto is not very good at selling himself (as he is man of little words) and he is no Oscar in terms of popularity so it was never going to be bigger - everyone should know that, Schaefer was just hyping the event to gain as much interest as possible.

The fact that you are trying to claim that the #2 biggest non heavyweight PPV is "just OK" just says it all....How can it be just good? It's clearly great and no one but Floyd and Oscar have beaten it!

Floyd vs De La Hoya was the two biggest stars in the sport facing off before the recession. The only fight to beat them numbers will be Pacquiao - Maweather.

Not only is it NOT a valid point...it was never the point of your post to begin with. It's just a bunch of BS questions to cover your true agenda..."**** FMJ!!!" Yeah we get it, what's new? In fact, just about every poster on just about every Boxing forum as well as the large majority of Boxing Media believes that FMJ should get the lions share of the purse split in a potential fight versus Manny Pacquiao. This has been the consensus thought LONG BEFORE this recent $1.5Mil PPV event.

$1.5Mil is an excellent figure for a PPV Event that was PLAN B!!! And considering the fact that your PPV fights were an old-ass Mosley, a late replacement in Forbes and a fight that no-one outside of Caguas, PR and St. Louis ever heard of (Quintana vs Lattimore). So let it go man and stop hating...seriously.

Considering people were calling this a 'shot', 'washed up' version to the one whom Pacquiao fought this is still a success.

300,000 more buys on an average of $10-20 more than the pacquiao-cotto fight, coupled with the fact this was the 9th highest gate for the MGM-
'The Nevada State Athletic Commission released the gate figures on Wednesday. Mayweather-Cotto generated a live gate of $12,000,150. That figure comes from 14,612 tickets sold (and does not include the thousands who watched the fight in Las Vegas via closed circuit at other MGM properties)'

    That's not too shabby

1.5 million was a succes in this economy or any economy in fact, not matter what GBP aimed for.

They made $94 million off PPV buys, you must be a full blown ****** to think that's not succesesful.

The only PPV that'll be doing over 2 million again is the obvious May vs Pac, anything else won't come near anytime soon.

Leave it to a pac-Trad to Discredit Floyd!!
Ok Since Alva/Mosley/And Cotto are Responsible for Floyd's Numbers!!

I Guess lets do the Same for pac...
Cotto Got Pac at Least 600,000 Extra buys in their fight
Mosley Got Pac At Lease 400,000 Buys
Marg's-Got Pac At Least 300,000 Buys
JMM-Got Pac 700,000 Buys because he have a Big Mexican Following

I mean the Only PPV fight for pac with a No name(To Casual Fans) got him 700,000 against Clottey
And the Fight for Floyd with a No Name(to Casual Fans) Ortiz got over 1 million Buys

Still Who have the Better Drawing Power???
And to the fuc-k Heads that Talking **** about Floyd numbers!!
    Boxing is a Business
Do you think if Canelo Could Draw 500,000 PPV buys rite now
Why wont GBP Give him his Own PPV?? Thats 2 Fights they could be Making a Crap Load of Money from instead one of!!

Stop talking sh!!!!t and think with Common Sense!!!!

As always most people see what they want to see. There's a reason why Floyd fights on similar dates, and that's to maximize his earnings. There's nothing wrong with that, but it does have to be taken into consideration when analyzing who really is the bigger draw between Mayweather and Pacquiao.

Floyd himself has said mexicans are the best boxing fans in the world, even though most are salivating to see him lose. He always depends on their buys and even enhances their full buying potential by fighting on their holidays in Las Vegas.

On Cinco de Mayo with a popular mexican fighting on the undercard and the main event vs Cotto who is probably the 3d biggest draw himself.
Honestly i thought 1.5 was pretty poor myself.

And this is not coming from a Pachugger by any means.

That said i gaveup on the Mayweather vs Pac fight almost 2 years ago.
