How many are there now? 5? and 17 divisions

so thats 85 world Champions :patsch

It seems that any fighter with a mediocre fight record can fight for a world title nowadays

would it not make more sense to have 1 major title belt in each division and perhaps 1 lesser belt ?

Plus interim, super, emeritus etc etc

Yes it would make sense, sadly common sense rarely prevails in todays game.

Personally i wouldnt overly mind two belts. Of course 1 will be ideal, but with two we would more likely get unification fights. Now we have 4 major 'World Titles', as well as all the Diamond, Super belts etc. There'll be a debute prospect world title belt next

With one we'd never need 'unification' bouts ;-)

Dont get me wrong Flea, one would be ideal. But 2 wouldnt be such a bad thing. At least us fans would have something to talk about as in 'which champion is better'. etc.

Yes, because they haven't got their own agenda have they?

History has shown they are as corrupt as any other alphabet organization.

The answer is to use your common sense. If you are a boxing fan, figure out who you believe to be the best fighter in each division, call him champ and create your own lineage.

What we need is a boxing Abramovic that just comes in and buys the WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO.

He then gives promoters, fighters and managers 2 months to negotiate future fights. Once that period is up all weight divisions our places into a knockout tournment featuring the 4 champions, intermim and regular champs and mandatory contenders. Over time it all works its self out and we end up with one true world champion who will be mandated to fight a minimum of 3x a year, they can only fight a guy ranked in the top 10 and they have to fight there no.1 contender in one of the 3 fights.

you can never fight for a world title without first becoming you continent champion. you cannot fight for a continential championship without becoming a national champion.

that is unrealistic because once bought out they would probable just setup new belts and start crowning new champs.

nah people are just as dumb its why the ibo are gaining a foothold and we have super, interim, gold, sapphire belts. In my ideal world all boxers, managers, promoters, trainers pay a flat yearly tax which is used to fund monetary incentives for belts and defenses against number one contenders

Got anything THAT bad on them from the last 10-20 years or so?

They arn't perfect by far they are nowhere near as corrupt as the "competition".
