The paper belt sanctioning orgs give out titles today to anyone and everyone. If fighters create their own belts and walk to ring with them they'd be worth just as much. For me the the Ring belt is the only one that counts today. The alphabet belts have destroyed any of the little credibility they had and shot themselves into insignificance with their corruption and greed driven lunacy of super duper champions, emiritus ghost champions, diamond/cubic zirconia belts, and their endless array of make-believe titles
Why is there so many? Is it becaus eof money? Why do some of you guys say that Ring is the only one that counts right now? Should't it be WBC that counts the most??
WBC is just as bad as the WBA. They're extremely corrupt, in the pockets of top promoters like Arum and Golden Boy, as we saw with Pacquiao and Canelo's cheap JMW titles. They gift belts to hyped latin figters, and unfairly strip champions to make their belt available. Recent examples of this was them stripping Bradley 6 months after he won the belt to give Morales another bogus title shot. They stripped Martinez, and a few months later Chavez Jr fought for and won his belt. They've also created a diamond belt for catchweight fights, which makes no sense at all. The Ring is the most credible. They don't take any money from their champions or ranked fighters, they just rank fighters and determine who the best is. They only have one belt and it's only handed out when the top two ranked fighters square off against each other, or in some cases the #1 and #3, often establishing a lineage/being for the lineal title. The Ring champion is the real champion.
WBA from what I understand is the oldest belt and the cloest to a drect linkage to the past. Has made its self in to a bit of a joke recently. WBC seems to be the belt most respected and reguarded by the boxers The Ring is the boxing media and fan choice. The IBF is the least bad, in terms of pollitics. In my opinion, and therefore the belt I like best. WBO & IBO are riding the coat tails of the WBA, WBC, IBF & The Ring
Including the minor belts like the WBF and IBA? WBC WBA WBO IBF IBO IBA IBU WBB WPBF GBO GBC GBU UBO UBC Now that is prior to Super Belts(WBA), Silver belts(WBC), Interim Belts, Emeritus, or anything else. But lets say the average belt organization has 2 world champion spots. 2*14= 28 World Champions possible per division. And since there are 17 divisions that is 476 possible world champions.
Thanks for the explaination, I thought that when fighters fight for titles the promoter who holds the event gets charged, not the fighter...
