What kind of argument is this? Were the fights good? Yes. So keep the whining down. People on a forum trying to be boardroom geniuses. It's sports, chill out.
Who the hell is whining? We're being fed watered down mismatches and only because it blows up in Haymon's face and they're competitive people think PBC is giving them a good product. It's really just hilarious.
The Guerrero main event started at NOON. He was facing a no-name in Carson, California. Guerrero was coming off a loss, it was on free television so anyone with a TV could watch it at home, so there weren't a lot of reasons to go. As it was, a couple thousand people showed up. And a million and a half people tuned in. It was fine. Hell, it was more than fine. Guerrero got dropped. The fight was close all the way - as were the other fights they showed. Cotto is the middleweight champion, defending the title against another former middleweight champ in Brooklyn on a Saturday night. It should've been well attended. Even so, I doubt Cotto's ratings were as high as Guerrero's. And HBO only delivered one fight instead of FOUR.
Good points, but Haymon did make a mistake in holding the fight in StubHub. I think a smaller venue would have added to the atmosphere. That said, 1.5 million viewers isn't a bad number at all for a couple of lesser match-ups.
I'm pretty sure the majority of profit comes from network views rather than ticket sales...just saying
The PBC announcers are a joke. I believe I heard BJ Flores say that Guerrero might not have been ready for a fight of this "caliber". Really? A fight against a guy with 4 KO's and coming off a KO loss to Josesito Lopez. I have to hand it to the PBC. They are really re-inventing the sport. I've never seen HBO air a fight and miss an entire round changing networks. I'm used to walkout bouts, but I'm not used to the main event coming first and then the undercard. When you consider Guerrero got $1M, and Angulo even got 100k for his fight on NBCSN, I doubt there was enough attendance and people watching on TV to make it worth the while. I think the fight fans in CA are smart, and will support quality fighters like GGG, Bradley, Matthysse, etc., but aren't going to be fooled by charlatans like Chavez Jr. and to a lesser extent Guerrero.
