Now now, I know Mr.Floyd Mayweather just fought/whupped Maidana and there are going to be lots of troll threads being made about that fight. But let's flip the script and indulge ourselves in the more important matter at hand. Talking about one of the best fights of this decade/era. Danny Garcia vs Lucas Matthysse- September 14th, 2013. Backstory of this fight- A mouthwatering fight that everyone wanted to see in the JWW division (140). Danny Garcia, who was the unified lineal champion vs Lucas Matthysse (Who was the wrecking ball of the division, somebody who was avoided by almost everyone, the scariest fighter 147 and down). A Ray Leonard/Hearns, Ward/Froch kind of matchup. 1a vs 1b. The unanimous top 2 in the division by far. An era defining matchup. Now before we get to the fight, there is still much that needs to be told. Danny Garcia before this fight had beaten the likes of Morales to capture the WBC scrap, beaten a 6-1 favourite Amir Khan to unify capturing WBA/Ring belts, Judah (An A game judah), and beaten good fighters like Holt and Campbell. On the other hand, Lucas in many peoples' minds had beaten Judah/Alexander/Soto/Dallas Jr and came off an impressive victory against Lamont Peterson (Who was the IBF champion), but did not fight for the scrap. Still, a very impressive knockout win. After the fight, 95% of ESB proclaimed that Lucas was the uncrowned champion, how Danny would never sign to fight him in a million years. Not only this, but they also made claims that Danny would be knocked out in less than 4 rounds if it ever happened. And I don't blame them at all, Lucas really looked like a monster vs Lamont. Danny was present at the Lamont fight, they showed his face after the knockout and in my eyes, Danny was swarming with confidence, raising his finger proclaiming to be #1. Lucas fanatics say they saw something different, they thought they saw fear. :rofl Weeks passed and people are still going on about this fight, making countless threads about Danny prolonging the contract signing. Bullshitting about how he was never going to take the fight, bla bla bla etc etc etc. And boom, on the fateful day of July 13th 2013, Danny signs to fight Matthysse on "The One." It's on. And of course, the Matthysse-fanatics change their tone, proclaiming that Matthysse will knock Danny out in 3 rounds!!!! :admin. Riding the wagon to Heaven or the depths of Hell. Fight night comes, let's make this short and sweet [yt]35mN61yBtC0[/yt] Danny Garcia was clearly being beaten in the early rounds, and the momentum was in Matthysse's favour. Danny however started to time Matthysse and made Matthysse more and more gunshy. Using veteran tactics like holding, swarming from time to time and in the 6th round, busted Matthysse's eye up. Garcia's plan worked like a charm, it was like he took a page out of Hopkins's book. :happy:happy The tides started to shift in Garcia's favour. Garcia started beating him up bad and knocked him down in the 11th. Nobody thought it would happen but Garcia did it. Lucas landed some MAJOR BOMBS which would have knocked out anyone at 140, but Garcia shook it off like no problem. His mouthpiece even came off from one of his bombs, it was an insane s hot. Garcia got a point taken away in the 12th but he was still far ahead in the cards to secure himself a UD victory. 115-111, 114-112, 114-112. Still, the unified champion of the world, Danny Swift Garcia. One of the best wins of this era by far. An S class level win. deal
Happens after a May fight, always does. Haters whining about his win. :deal But this isn't about that. It's about Garcia beating Matthysse last year. Such a great win. :hey
Danny showed us without a shadow of a doubt that he possesses one of the best jaws in boxing. He is a true IRON CHINNED WARRIOR :deal
AWESOME THREAD!! This was a good, entertaining fight. U can really tell Garcia started unloading on him in the later rounds, Matthysse was like DAMN!! Body shot dropped Matthysse, matthysee true warrior though and got right up. Both battled to the end but Garcia is the winner baby!! Picked up some fat dough and the haters shut up...only for awhile.
Good thread, didn't realize it was the one year mark already. Good on you to have the presence of mind to mark this day, one helluv of a fight that deserves full recognition as such.
What a difference a year makes. Since that fight, Gift became the laughing stock of boxing by losing to Herrera and getting the W, and instead of a rematch he cherrypicks a 70+ ranked fighter coming up in weight. Matthyse stopped his two opponents.
Lucas is still an uncrowned champion you dimwit. He destroyed IBF belt holding PEDerson...who shafted it off Khan.
Its funny, because he wrote all that chit above & no one cares :rofl Hard luck son. Have a hard time sleeping last night after that mediocre performance by Floyd? :!: Manny back in those nightmares? :verysad
