Not to pile on scottc or anything, but plz dude... Some of the parallels you draw are kinda weak. Like the similarity of our sport and its relationship to bicycling. Don't get me wrong, I think cyclists are amazing athletes, but... But to offer that when biking you sometimes ride into the backs of cars, or fall off and rub some pavement? lol There is a bit of a difference between that and getting into a ring with a person who, if they are worth their salt, has trained day in and out, breathed, dreamt, ate and thought about one single goal...to smash your face in and cause you serious harm in. The mere thought of killing the other person is an after thought. We don't really want to hurt the other person badly per se, but if it is what is needed to acquire win, we will do it.
Very mature mate. I assume you never went any further than an undergraduate degree then. Look at the 2007 edition of the european journal of sport. THe title is 72 sports journals disproved.....its done on their sources, Methodology and the way in which they used the information..............Sports science is very much about not using naff references. If its four years old chances are new equipments available. No one ever gets a study right. he print them then someone finds the fauts and re does it and so on. I was giving an example of the sport I used because I was asked what my first sport was. Another example would be rugby. I was trying to liven up a debate.....not receive some dim wit without any qaulifications in the area telling me to **** off. But I suppose that type of person is one of the problems with the sport and why it is so far behind. Too much pride perhaps?
Basically what you expected to achieve in your first year, what you did acheive and also what you think the Av person acheives,.
Okay, I am starting to take offence myself as I feel you might be trashing on boxing straight up now. Our sport is currently in a surge of popularity, sir. And we have the great Charlie Zelenoff leading the charge, tyvm.
no im not saying anything bad about boxing. I feel its one of the few "true" sports, Along with running, throwing and jumping. Ie classic greek olympic (obveously it deviates somewhat but in essence its the same as wrestling over there but from a diff culture over here) Boxing is and always has been popular. Its cheap and easy to get into and anyone of any size can do it. Abit like starting running, cheap and easy to get into. My comment about the type of person in boxing pretty much sums up the firstgym I went to though. It may not be a good representation and I wont name drop but the people there were arrogant knowitalls with no real knowledge about the conditioning they were setting. WHen it comes to tech work I shut up and listen *you wont find a post by me questioning it* but having studied phys for years at a high level to be told by some guy in a gym to do something that is wrong I do find difficult. And when I offered my advise to this guy he told me to **** off......so I did. I do however coach 3 national level athletes in another sport(not cycling either) which I think qaulifies me in a practical sense as well as my academic qaulifications etc. Sorry If I offended you personally. I dont know you so I can only assume your a nice person until you say something rude...which im sure you wont.
atsch :| How is that relevant, what's in that journal that I should read? This is a cop out mate. Just like your disregarding of sources because they don't fit your elitist views. New magic boxing gloves? :think But this new one is right? Or is it just as wrong as the 4 year old study? No. You fled from debate by disregarding the source like an elitist child pretending to be a scientist. And what exactly are your qualifications in boxing? Yeah I know you're a scientist, bla bla bla.
