10-8 rounds and scoring in general

first point, no you can score it 10-9 but only when its very clear to you that the person who was knocked down won the round. and the 2nd one, yes you can do that but i personally havent done it that often and 10-10 rounds do happen but i prefer to give it to 10-9 if i can

 

I was under the impression that every rounds starts 10-10 if you score a knockdown the fighter that hit the canvas loses a point for every knockdown. However in the instance that you have given in which a fighter gets dropped in the first 10 seconds of the round (say a flash knockdown) and then dominates the remainder of the round then that would/should then be scored a 9-9 round. One fighter loses a point for getting knockdown the other fighter loses a point from being dominated.

Even rounds should be scored 10-10 but become more and more rare nowadays.

If one fighter completely overuns another heavily but does not score a knockdown it is still possible to score it a 10-8 but again very rare and defo more rare than a 10-10.

This is what I think anyway and if I am wrong someone please correct me!!

 

Whenever sky are scoring fight's they always seem to put a 10-10 round in nearly every fight, yet the judges very rarely use them.
I think close rounds are scored on what the judges like but where possible it should be 10-9.

 

yeah i've noticed that. i always try to score a 10-9, except in slugfests, i cant score them to save my life lol

 

That's how I've always done it to be honest.

The scoring system can be very harsh to a fighter. You can be dominated for 6 rounds and then have 6 close rounds to score a draw, which in a way isn't fair. I recall another system being trialled (I think in Canada?) where instead of 10-9 for losing a round it could be as low as 10-6 depending how badly you lost it. Which can be more fair but it makes judging even more subjective than it already is

 

yup in theory that scoring system SHOULD be fairer and a better reflection of the fight, but could be manipulated far more for fiddling and corruption sadly. I do agree with you in that the 10-9 scoring system doesnt always reflect the fight. Another note would be that I fighter could go out for the first 2 rounds and dominate and build up a healthy lead in two rounds then run and hug for the entire fight protecting that lead.

There is always gonna be pro's and cons to any system however. I have no idea what system would be best !!

hmm not sure, I dont know the exact ruling of that to be fair. Good question tho.

 

I'm with you on this. Just as an example, I would have scored the 5th round of Joshua v Klitschko 9-9. Joshua knocked him down quite early and then was hanging on for dear life for the rest of the round but stayed on his feet.

 

It's a 10 point must. You can win a round 10~9 10~8 or draw a round. Simple. If you get knocked down you are a point down if you clearly lose that round aswell it's 10~8 ie 2 points off (1 for getting knocked down 1 for losing the round) if you get knocked down at any point but have clearly won the other 2 n half minutes or so then it becomes eligible for a 10~9 because you effectively claw a point back. This scenario seems discretionary however. As for 9~9 No. It's a 10 point must

 

A 10~8 automatically just because of a knockdown is a bad inaccurate way to score a round imo

 

Just like Vlad/Joshua fight, the 5th round was scored 10-9 because Vlad go knocked down, but got up and won the round..................

Also, low blows should be illegal unlike boxing rules in Vegas where they are legal..............depending on who owns the referee, judges and boxing commission..............
