Interested to see what people believe to have been 10-8 rounds without a knockdown. Ill start with an easy one. Tito-Mayorga round 5 was the very epitome of a 10-8 round without a knockdown. There have been many examples of this but this one is always the first that comes to mind.
I dont like giving 10-8 rounds w/o a knockdown for two reasons: 1) A fighter should be rewarded, and have incentive, not to go down in a tough round, especially considering the risk (being stopped on one's feet). 2) A knockdown is such an epic event in a bout that it should be given the treatment it deserves, so one knockdown in a round automatically makes a round 10-8 no matter the other events in the round, and nothing else should equate to that (exceptions made for blatant fouls).
My understanding is a knock down doesn't automatically make a round 10-8. It's only 10-8 if the fighter that got the knock down would have won the round otherwise. Like in the Pac Cotto fight Cotto won round 3 but because Pac got the KD it was awarded to Pac 10-9. But in the next round Pac won the round and got the KD so it was 10-8.
Points being deducted for Low Blows, Butting, Holding etc. Can often result in 10-8 rounds without a knock down
The 10 pt system is plain stupid because it could be totally substituted by 3 point system ... probably never happened in boxing history to score round 10-6 and still continue fight .... or did that actually happened somewhere??? From the other hand getting strong beating and having just one point deducted is unfair to case when you get the round 'almost' even and have point deducted just because the other guy thrown more punches in the air. So 10-8 and even 10-7 should be fair and should be frequently scored if there is a huge beating received in the round.
Doesnt matter. Scoring system is complete crap. Most judges never score a 10-7 round correctly let alone anything more than that. 1 point per round per judge. 1 point per round per knockdown - given by referee NOT judges.
Pacquaio - Marquez round 1 was 10-6 to pacman. But the judge whos final scorecard was a draw, scored it 10-7 for some stupid reason.
if u can hurt your opponent and the judges clearly see he is hurt and he's done nothing in the round than you gonna get a 10-8 usually...but u gotta dominate and have your opponent almost down..wobbly...
