1 Douglas vs Tyson 2 Turpin vs Robinson 3 Laing vs Duran 4 Spinks vs Ali 5 Foreman vs Moorer 6 Randall vs Chavez 7 Purrity vs W. Klitschko 8 Rahman vs Lewis 9 Ali vs Liston 10 Braddock vs Baer
Solid choices for the most part but I would rearrange the order: 1.) Douglas-Tyson 2.) Turpin-Robinson 3.) Braddock-Baer 4.) Randall-Chavez 5.) Spinks-Ali 6.) Laing-Duran 7.) Honeygan-Curry 8.)
I get the feeling that Robinson's loss to LaMotta was huge at the time. Boxing experts were making picks about who would stand the best chance of taking Robinson's "0", and none it was felt could actually be favoured against the Sugar man. Then comes LaMotta from relative obscurity to take out the number 1 & 2 welterweights at the time, California Jackie Wilson and Ray Robinson, who were supposed to have a welterweight superfight, Wilson being the man that the experts thought had a best chance of ending Robinson's unbeaten streak. It ended up being the battle of the LaMotta "left-overs". On hindsight of course, LaMotta was the bigger man and a great fighter in his own right, who always troubled Sugar Ray. But it wasn't known then.

1 - Douglas KO10 Tyson 2 - Holyfield TKO11 Tyson 3 - Rahman vs Lennox 1 4 - Foreman KO10 Moorer 5 - Briggs vs Foreman - ROBBERY!!! :fire:twisted::fire 6 - Purrity vs W. Klitschko 7 - Ali TKO6 Liston 8 - McCall vs Lennox 9 - Byrd vs Vitali 10 - Moorer vs Holyfield
It depends what mechanism we are using, because using betting odds I am guessing fights like Corbett/Sullivan, Patterson/JohannsonI, Monzon/BenvenutiI, Honeyghan/Rosi and Tyson/HolyfieldI could be listed... Also I see no mention of Louis/SchmelingI and although extremely unlucky in defeats, and that were then avenged; Napoles/BackusI, Honeyghan/VacaI and Norris/SantanaI and II could be there.
I do not know about this one: The first fight was in France, which promotionally gave Ramirez the advantage and he was favourite, and of course won by very dodgy decision. The second fight Whitaker was a warm favourite and duly dominated over 12 rounds, I do not see either fight being an upset. Can you explain your thoughts?
There's no specific method. I also thought about betting odds, but that would be hard to find out, and give a distorted list. Most fans don't even bet on boxing. I just made it a combination of odds, general perception, and the relative position of the two fighters before the bout. I deliberately avoided clear 'robberies' as robberies are pretty common and not a legit upset defeat IMO. So Holyfield vs Tyson was a HUGE upset on betting odds (20:1 or something silly at the peak), but honestly, after Tyson already got dominated by Douglas, and had 3 years in prison, and Holyfield being an established ATG fighter, really it was not that big an upset at all. Only to people who still, inexplicably after the Douglas loss, bought into the Tyson myth and thought 3 years prison and ring rust didn't matter against a great opponent. It was a top 10 so you have to leave some off. I'm sure there are plenty I missed.
Holyfield was 24/1 against... Looking at your very good list, that is a bigger upset (odds wise) than nine of the fights you listed... My point is, so often after a huge upset happens, people speak with hindsight and bemoan why pre upset, fans were so naive.
Okay, I don't know much about the older fights, and the list below might not be the biggest, but here goes. 1. Douglas Tyson 2. Holyfield Tyson I 3. Pacquiao Barrera I 4. Pacquiao De la Hoya 5. Foreman Frazier 1 6. Foreman Moorer 7. Norton Ali I 8. Spinks Ali I 9. Ali Foreman 10. Rahman Lewis I
