    i didnt realise rameriz was the favourite in the first fight, and i remember expecting whittiker to win and being shocked afterwards.

    but if you say ramirez was favourite, then scrub that one. :good

    He was a slight favourite. He had the big edge in experience and was fighting if not literally, technically on home soil. Also Whitaker although promising and full of potential was unproven at that level going in, his biggest win being the off the floor decision over The Black Mamba.

    Most boxing experts gave Leonard little chance against Hagler

    A questionable decision no doubt, but Toney won, so why do you put it down as an upset?

    A couple people mention Wlad v Purrity, but at the time Wlad was an up and coming fighter who wasn't known much at the time.

    Wlad v Sanders is a far bigger upset.

    Also Moussa vs. V Harris was a bit of an upset - if anyone remembers that.

    FYI;

    Ali was favored 3-1/4-1 range in the first Norton fight. The second bout was much closer and in that 7-5/8-5 Ali range.

    Hearns was in that 3-1 range for Barkley 1 and not nearly as wide as some would think.

    Weaver was an underdog along the lines of 3-1 for Tate and some of that was because the fight was in Tate's backyard. Weaver was also the underdog in the Coetzee fight, which is unusual for a heavyweight champion.

    Randall was a 15-1 underdog for Chavez #1 and pretty much in line w/ odds with some previous Chavez opponents.

    Sanders was along the lines of 12-1 for Wladimir.

    Lewis was 13-1 in Rahman #1.

    not nitpicking here but you'll have to get your odds right mate. You say lewis was 13-1 against Rahman and im thinkin that maybe you mean 13-1 ON i.e. 1-13 but you said Randall was 15-1 against chavez which would be about right

    What was so big of an upset with Watson-Benn? From what i remember Benn was slight favourite in the bookies and plenty took Watson to beat him. A slight upset if anything:good

    David probably deserved the nod I agree. But for the sake of boxing at the time, it helped that Toney was given benefit of any doubt.

    But anyway, the fight went to Toney, why was that an upset?

    I figured Watson to win easily as well, but there was no doubt Benn went into the fight a very warm favourite; seven to two on if I remember rightly.
