The ones whom I think would have the best shot of beating a PRIME Ali would be - Jack Johnson Larry Holmes Even Muhammad would n't be totally unbeatable. Anyone could be taken on a particular night but,on a league basis,Ali would finish top - In my view
Ken... Ok.. at a push prime v prime. Those i'd give most chance. 1. Tyson (Similarities to Frazier but more options and faster) 2. Holmes (Could match alot of what Ali did) 3. Lewis ( mobile, big, incredibly strong,)
Frankenfrank.. Ok...can you give me the rundown on how prime v prime , Carl Williams beats The Greatest fighter who ever laced a glove ?
He simply gives Ali a dose containing some of the ingredients of his own medicine. The legal ingredients and then some other legal ingredients. This is no tiny (for a HW) chubby Jerry Quarry or an old and literally shot 1 kidneyd Cleveland Williams. It is a fighter like Holmes minus the cheating. When Holmes got into trouble he always had his thumb to fall on. Williams' jab would be something Ali would not have been able to dance away from while rubbing his own in Williams' face. The counter right would have been long and quick enough to reach. Williams' chin was sufficient, just like it sufficed vs Holmes, Berbick, Witherspoon (not a good example because Williams ran in this one) , Ferguson and Bert Cooper .
Wilder?huh?really?Foreman is still probably 100x more dangerous than Wilder, and no love for Lewis?other than that solid list
Frankenfrank.. I'm still bemused that you actually think Carl Williams topples Ali. Your explanation as to how, hasn't really convinced me .In fact i'm more confused than ever !
please tell me how all these fighters beat Ali. especially Holmes. Everything Holmes did, Ali did better.
You think Holmes is the most unlikely? He had an even better jab than Ali, for one thing. Johnson was awkward and strong. He could give Ali fits on a given day. Dempsey had pressure and a great left hook. Tunney was a tremendous boxer. Louis was deadly; fast and powerful with every punch in the book. He also had the jab to trouble Ali. Charles was an excellent boxer, as good as anything Ali ever faced. Walcott could make Ali lead, something Ali didn't like to do. Cooper WOULD have beaten Ali but for Dundee's quick thinking and smelling salts. Liston was a shadow of his prime when he fought Ali; at his best he had the power and chin to give Ali hell. Vlad has the combination of size, power and strength allied with boxing intelligence to totally nullify Ali. I can make a case for all these guys, of course some more than others. Styles make fights and Ali might struggle with some of their styles like he struggled with Frazier and Norton.
Holmes isn't the most unlikely but he's the most obvious. Holmes would have a chance against the 70's ali, though I would not favor him. However he would have no chance in their prime. What makes you think Johnson would fight Ali? He ducked every other black contender. People compare Johnson to Ali but that's WAY off. Johnson is a poor man's Holmes at best. Dempsey- Basically it's a matchup between a powerful guy who needs to win by knockout and who was routinely outboxed against a guy that was never knocked out in his prime and one of the most technically skilled heavyweights in history. Throw in the fact that Ali was a taller (by 2"), rangier (by 3" if I remember correctly) and more physically substantial fighter. Tunney was great, but Ali was bigger, stronger, faster and an all round better boxer. Ali would beat Louis. First of all, Louis had problems with fast and quick-moving boxers as we'd seen with Billy Conn. Conn dominated Louis the whole fight before getting KO'd by a haymaker in the 13th round. Now Conn was a light-heavyweight and obviously smaller than Louis. Ali is 6'3" and around 220 and is definitely faster and quicker than Conn. As for Charles, Ali was Faster, stronger, hit harder, smarter, had a better chin, bigger, had a HUGE reach advantage. Against Cooper, Ali only received 6-11 extra seconds. You also forgot to mention Ali was green and 5 years away from his prime. I agree Liston gives Ali hell but Ali wins. Machen troubled a prime Liston. Ali was light years faster than Machen Vlad beating Ali. Lol this isn't the comedy forum!
Ten to beat Ali Norton Frazier Holmes All three did it. Sure Ali was past it for Holmes ( but in shape ). Ali had issues with good jabbers at all states of his career ( Doug Jones, Kenny Norton, Jimmy Young, Larry Holmes ). Im picking two prototypes to beat Ali 1 ) Pressure fighters, with good stamina, and good left hooks ( A punch Ali got nailed by too often ) 2 ) Larger fighters who can jab well and had more power than Ali W Klitschko V Klitschko L Lewis J Dempsey R Marciano J Jeffries R Bowe
