Interesting picks. Of these I feel Wills beating Dempsey would have the biggest impact on the history of the sport, though Burley beating Robinson would be a close second. Interestingly these are the ones we disagree upon. As much as I hate to do it i have to pick Robinson to take a razor thin decision over Burley and I think that Dempsey would get Wills in the middle rounds having dominated him.

We also disagree about the width of the Calzaghe-Jones decision and the manner of Lopez's victory - I think he would score a TKO.

You reallly think Conn would get KO'd by Moore?

Great, great picks. I think that Lewis might dominate Bowe a bit more than you indicate and I think Lopez could stop Carbajal but I agree with every other pick - including your Willard Langford pick.

I like your picks too. Although you've wriggled out of Conn-Moore I see!

...What??? At his peak (during 1949-1959), Moore went a decade with a 75-3-2 record, 8-3 against IBHOF members. Even including the more formative years of his career, Moore was still about 15-11-1 against current IBHOF fighters (some of his opponents who haven't been will probably still be inducted in time). He was 10-0 in world light heavyweight title fights. During hs time on top, the only guys he didn't manage to beat were the world heavyweight champions.

Charley Burley v Sugar Ray Robinson - Robinson all but admitted to ducking Burley, whilst Charley offered to fight Sugar for free. These two are my #1 and #2 at the weight and it is heart breaking that they couldn't get it on at 147. Probably they are not your #1 and #2 at the weight, but based upon what you know about Burley, how do you think this one would have gone?

(Burley scores an early knockdown, and that proves to be the difference in a closely contested contest. SD Burley. Robinson wins their next two fights by avoiding trips to the canvas.)

Harry Wills v Jack Dempsey - No-one is allowed to say "there was a contract for the fight!" - just tell us how you think it would have gone.

(Dempsey scores a come-from-behind victory in the 12th.)

Henry Armstrong v Charley Burley - Another top 4 all time p4p figher ducks, Charley Burley, or his people do it for him - though there can be no question that Armstrong had no fear at all of Charley, the shore doesn't fear the sea either. Surely Burley would have beaten Armstrong half to death at 147?

(Burley lands the better shots, especially early, but Armstrong lands more, and closes strong. In a hotly disputed decision, Burley gets the nod on two of the judges cards.)

Lennox Lewis v Riddick Bowe - Assume Bowe arrives properly adjusted to fight - how does he do?

(Properly adjusted or no, I think a focused Lewis survives some rough moments, and starches Bowe in the middle rounds with a well-placed counter right hand)

Roy Jones Junior v Joe Calzaghe - Joe fights Jones instead of Tarver the first time - what tranpires?

(Calzaghe doesn't take rounds off, and gets the close decision.)

Ricky Hatton v Miguel Cotto (140) - At 147 Hatton has little chance. But Cotto looked vulnerable at 140, stamina and chin both questionable. Hatton always spoke like it was "one for the future", perhaps not appreciating just how badly Cotto struggled with the weight. Now we'll never know. What do you think?

(Cotto at 140lbs was still the better boxer. I say he scores a late rounds stoppage in a fight where both fighters hit the canvas.)

Billy Conn v Archie Moore - Moore met Conn once both were retired. "Billy why did we never have a fight?" asked Moore. Conn: "Because you knew I wold have batterd you, Archie." Is he right or is he wrong?

(Wrong. I think Moore would have found a way inside, and Conn doesn't have the power to keep him off throughout the course of the fifteen rounds. Moore by KO in the 15th.)

Sam Langford v Jess Willard - Willard defends six months after beating Johnson. Langford is the opponent. How does he do?

(Langford was a bit past his prime, but I think he still has enough to bust up Willard and score a stoppage.)

Ricardo Lopez v Micheal Carbajal - Does the heart and technical excellence of Carbajal set any kind of problem for p4p great Lopez?

(Yeah...but not enough to win the fight. Cabajal gives Finito hell, but Lopez boxes beautifully and emerges with a close decision in a fight where both fighters are busted up.)

Muhammad Ali v George Foreman II - Whisper it but there are those that will tell you that Ali ducked Foreman's claim to a rematch. Could Ali have done magic again?

(Yeah...I think Foreman kind of regressed in terms of technique and confidence following the loss to Ali. Ali plays mind games, survives some rough moments, but closes strong to win the UD.)

    Good post.

Moore did fail to rematch a lot of the guys that beat him on the way up though.
