Everybody knows Chuvalo was knocked down twice by Bonavena.

All I know is he barely touched the floor with his glove on the first 'knockdown' and got caught off-balance the 2nd time and didn't touch the floor at all. None of them were official knockdowns, just like Frazier dropped Clay twice in their first fight but only one is considered an official knockdown.

Both were legitimate cases of knockdowns, even if the referee was too blind to see that.

your reaching man, bonavena was a dog.told chuvalo he would meet him head on.he ran a lot of the fight, those were pushs more then a punch that he used on chuvalo.

Wayne Mc Cullough had as good a chin as any man who entered the ring. He took some real solid shots from all kinds of fighters and towards the end of his career, from much bigger guys. Balls to burn

Read the definition of a knockdown. The referee was stupid not to rule them as such.

I'm sorry, but you're making such a big case of it. It's not the first time a boxer goes down (even though in this case: 1. he barely touched the floor with his glove the 1st time, and 2. didn't touch the floor at all with something else than his feet on the 2nd time) but the referee doesn't consider it an official knockdown.

Even if he was indeed knocked-down twice against Bonavena, it doesn't change the fact that he has an impressive chin, probably the greatest.

Whatever. Like I said, re-watch Foreman-Chuvalo, then watch Lyle-Foreman and Lyle-Shavers, and ponder whether Chuvalo's chin was actually better than Lyle's.

    [dm]xcka4q_chuvalo-lamotta_sport[/dm]

    0:15 push
0:25 throws a punch and goes off balance

He showed no signs of being affected in any way afterwards. If this is the proof that Chuvalo couldn't take a great punch then it isn't much.

Foreman was swinging at Chuvalo as if he was hitting a heavy bag, completely fresh at that point.

He had Lyle down with tired arm swings. At the end Lyle went out cold from what seemed like arm punches in the corner. I don't mean to discredit the amount of punishment he took, Lyle was a tough man, but his toughness was as much heart and determination to get up from the canvas as it was his ability to take a punch without going down in the first place.

Also taking into account Lyle being hurt worse by Quarry, stopped by Ali, dropped by LeDoux and devastated by Lynn Ball, aged as he was, his chin probably wasn't up to Chuvalo's standards regardless of a fight with Foreman in which he was knocked out cold in 5 rounds. Shavers also had him out in round 2, with only the bell saving him.

The claims of Chuvalo's ability to take a punch don't rest on the Foreman fight anyway. It was about the only fight in which he went reeling but then again he had fought nearly 70 times by that point.

foreman also had a nice chin.
He did have stamina issues though, and he still managed to stand up after Ali knocked him down, ref stopped the fight.

Gotta check out a lot of these guys. Gotta give
a shout ot to Bowe, Hopkins, Holyfield. Tysons
gotta be up there, despite his losses, when he did
take flush shot he endured sickening amounts of
punishment, washed up Mike took severe shots
before Lewis finished him. What do you think
    of SRR's chin?
