Vitali Tougher Than Wladimir? hahaha THATS LAUGHABLE. Did Wladimir ever quit on his stool in a championship fight up on all 3 scorecards with 3 rounds to go vs a featherfisted cruiserweight? I dont think so. Vitali is not tough
YES but he did show heart against Lewis when he fought witha cut and wanted to keep fighting despite his cut
Not a great list of fighters overall to say the least, some good calls. Order would be switched around here and there. Lewis at #1 for example. How the **** is Bugner on there? :huh
Pretty mediocre list from the so-called experts. Schmeling has no business ranking higher than Lewis. Bugner also ranks awfully high, as well as Farr.
The title is greatest European heavyweights ,not greatest European Heavyweight World Champions. Which world class fighters has Povetkin beat exactly? Having an unbeaten record is not allways a sign of great quality ,eg Brian Neilson. Farr ,for example, fought three undisputed world Champions. Bugner was born in Hungary but domiciled in the UK ,before moving to Australia. Cooper beat Zora Folley and was in the top 10 for the better part of a decade, not a great fighter but a very good European level one. Lewis should obviously be number one on this very poor list . Schmeling and the Klits are next in whatever order you prefer,Bugner is way too high. Then Ingo I think you rate the eastern Europeans you mentioned way too high ,maybe this coming week end will confirm or change your opinion.
If Lewis is considered European opposed to Canadian or Jamician he is definately number 1. Vitali is 2. Wlad is a very shakey 3 because he can lose on almost any night with that chin ...
I dont think that i would rate Schmelling over Lewis either, but let us not forget that with Schmelling's win over a close to prime Joe Louis, he has a better win, it would seem, then Lennox Lewis has. He also doesnt really have the two bad KO losses, while in his prime against two fighters who are not really all that highly rated. Schmelling was a lot better fighter than many people give him for. I must admit though, the list as a whole does look a little strange.
Do you seriously believe Henry Cooper, Karl Mildenberger or Tommy Farr is better than Chagaev? Not a chance. A cursory glance at the ring records and films is all an objective person needs to do to determine this. Though Povetkin is somewhat un-proven as a professional, I think he's better than Cooper. Farr, and Mildenberger already. Do you seriously believe Henry Cooper, Karl Mildenberger or Tommy Farr is better than Chagaev? Not a chance. Farr, and Mildenberger already. If I were to create a top ten Euro list on ability of fighters who were born there it would look something like this: 1. Lewis 2A. V Klitschko 2B. W. Klitschko 4. Schmeling 5. Bruno 6. Chagaev - Has some big fights ahead of him. Already 3-0 vs top ten and an alphabet world champion. 7. T. Sharkey 8. Ingo -Over rated, but for the sake of argument I'll give him this spot for now. 9. Carnera 10. Povetkin - On the rise Just missed the cut Ibragimov, Valuev, Bugner. Mildenberger, Farr, and Cooper were simply not good enough to make the list.
Why do you always take a single incident and use it to over simplify everything? Between the two of them, they have a combined 93 professional fights. In all those matches, there is only one occurrence of a man quitting on his stool. Would you like to talk about how Vitali annialated Corrie Sanders, Ross Purity and Sam Peter - all of whom either beat Wlad or troubled the hell out of him??
SuzieQ has mentioned this 100 times. But will he be fair minded and mention that some of his idols in Willie Pep, Ezzard Charles, and Jake LaMotta also quit in fights? Even Marciano himself quit in an amateur fight, and he wasn't even injured.
Judging by your list, it is interesting that 2A, 2B, 6 and 10, so one can only conclude that you consider that the European boxing is in the Golden era right at the moment! 4 of the top 10 Greatest of all time are still active and 2 of the top 10 look to have their best ahead of them! Personally, i cant see it! The current era simply isnt that good. I am guessing from your rankings that other current fighters like Valuev, Maskaev etc might go close to sneaking in your top 20. It seems to dominant for me. Incidentally, is Chagaev v Vlad the European fight of the Century given that two prime top 10 European heavys of all time are about to go one on one (one an undefeated world champion and the other the widely accepted champion on a huge win streak)? On your rankings this is the European equivalent of Johnson v Jeffries, but both are actually in the prime. In all seriousness, it is a shame that this isnt considered a bigger fight than it is, I am starting to think that Chagaev will win and certainly it would be easily both fighters biggest wins yet.
