Never understood it myself. The man quit in one professional bout, in a match where he had been fighting for many rounds with a rotator cuff injury. Look at how he was ready to continue against Lewis despite having nearly half his face punched off. Look at some of the shots he took from Corrie Sanders. Look at how he came back after 4 years at the age of 37 to easily beat Peter.. Why doesn't Suzie ever talk about those things??

Povetkin will eclipse Cooper et al but surely he hasn't a better resume so far than resumes with wins over Folley, Baer, close call with Louis, hurting ans dropping Ali etc?
And if Sharkey is in, where is Fitz, surely he was the better of these two?
Other Euro guys, Jack Root, Walter Neusell, Peter Maher, Uzcuden, Coffey, and many more. BTW Lewis should be far and away no.1.

Fank Bruno shouldnt be anywhere near the top 5 and I am British.

Certainly not ahead of Johansen Carnera or even Farr.

I guess based on creer acomplishments and taking into acount only heavyweights of the gloved era I would say:

    1. Lennox Lewis
    2. Bob Fitzsimmons
    3. Max Schmeling
    4. Wladamir Klitschko (watch this space?)
    5. Primo Carnera
    6. Ingemer Johansen
    7. Vitally Klitschko
    8. Tommy Farr
    9. Ruslan Chagaev
    10. Joe Bugner

Note that Klitschko's junior and senior along with Chagaev can improve their standing. Alexander Povetkin could also break the list verry soon.

    My list;

    1---Lennox Lewis
    2---Max Schmeling
    3---Vitali Klitschko
    4---Wlad Klitschko
    5---Ingemar Johansson
    6---Primo Carnera
    7---Tommy Farr
    8---Paulino Uzcudun
    9---Ruslan Chagaev
    10--Karel Sys

I don't consider Fitz and Sharkey Euros, even if they were born there. Bugner--perhaps a bit overrated.

This list is by achievement, not h2h

Honestly in my honest opinion...if you look at accomplishments and talent levels, there is NO WAY vitali could ever rate above wlad. Wlad has accomplished far more than Vitali, and h2h he is better in almost every single department than vitali.

On the point of him being better h2h, i think the only way you can attempt to justify that is by adding in the part after it every time- 'in every single department'. Because quite simply put, i know he does things better in a technical or whatever sense, i just think that Vitali effectively is better. I'm far more convinced when picking Vitali in head to head's than Wladimir.

I like your list but Chag is an Uzbek and not a Euro, but a Central Asian. Good call on the Cornish Fitz.

Ingemar Johansson overrated? Please explain Mendoza. His 3rd round and 1 round demolitions of # 1 rated Eddie Machen and Heavyweight champion Floyd Patterson are far more impressive than Ruslan Chagaevs Majority decisions over Nicolay Valuev and Old John Ruiz

I really like alexander potvekin. I cant wait for him to make old vitali look foolish. Potvekin-Wlad will be a classic! I like wlad in that one!

LET ME ASK YOU: What fighter in history other than Vitali Klitschko, in a WORLD TITLE FIGHT Gave UP his belt with 2 rounds to go while WELL AHEAD on all 3 scorecards vs a harmless man much smaller than him who he easily could have held off and sucked it up? I would rate Vitalis quit job against chris byrd as the WORST cowardly quit job in boxing history! Larry Merchant said "Vitali does not have the mentallity of a champion". Maghoo claims he fought all those rounds with a torn rotator cuff....OK surely then he could have sucked it up and fought a couple more? Especially considering the man was a natural cruiserweight who had no punch and had no way of knocking him out. Vitali WAS champion and he GAVE UP his title. You have to be willing to fight to the death for that thing!!!

Incidently...Chris Byrd fought 42 year old Evander Holyfield 2 years later.....Holyfield sufferd a TORN ROTATOR cuff in round 1...then presumed to fight the next 11 rounds and FINISH THE FIGHT despite being BEHIND on the scorecards. THATS A TRUE CHAMPION!!

Wlad would have outclassed vitali in his prime...I cant imagine what wlad would do to this old rusted version of vitali...It would be manslaughter. Wlad does everything better than vitali. Better two fisted power, better punching arsenal, better combination puncher, faster handspeed, better boxer, better technique, better defense, much better jab, tougher, more heart. Vitali is slow, has very poor timing, has poor fundamentals, is more of an attrition puncher than one punch artist, lacks quality defense, does not fight well under adversity, does not tolerate pain, and he paws with his jab
