When Floyd talked about the difference between his wins over DLH and Hatton and Pacs wins against them and he mentioned the weightclass difference and the size of the gloves both valid points does this make that much of a difference?

i could see how bigger gloves would help against cuts and as a defensive cushion

but in terms of power does it matter that much?

should they fight i can see floyd requesting 10 oz gloves

If it didn't matter then it wouldn't be such a big part of the negotiation process.

10 oz. gloves are designed and mandated for fights 160+ pounds to heavyweight....... Bigger dudes; bigger hands....... That's the standard / norm these days........

Guys like Primo Carnera and Sonny Liston played hell getting their paws in 8 oz. gloves......

Light-heavies and Heavies have been using 10 oz. gloves for over 40 yrs now.... However, depending on the contract, I have seen 8 oz. gloves used at times........ Though its rare these days.......

They used 10 oz. gloves because they fought in Vegas at 154 Lbs. The Nevada State Athletic commission doesn't allow fighters at 154 and up to use 8 Oz. gloves. The rule actually says 147 and up, but Arum appealed for a change before they would stage the Cotto-Marg fight in Vegas.

From my experience it matters. You can notice the difference in your hand speed and power.

Floyd always brings up Pacquiao's loss to Morales, but he obviously must think Pac would have won if he had the smaller more powerful gloves he wanted. I mean, if he is consistent.

8 Ounce Gloves basically are known to be favoured by power punchers, hence less padding, more destruction. as you go up in glove ounce there is more of a cushion.

If you havent got a good defense and you have to fight someone in 8 ounce gloves you better hope you have a metal chin lol.

UFC and MMA guys wear 4ounce mitts which is next to no padding so you can see why these guys get buzzed real bad when they take a clean bomb.
