10-6 without a knockdown? Sounds like giving up too much liberty. That seems too open-ended and open to interpretation then.

I know you two are going at it but I really don't think it's so absurd to grant round 1 10-8 and round 2 10-7. It's like the SRR-LaMotta last round had it not been stopped. That would've been perfectly appropriate to score a 10-8 round. Had LaMotta been dropped while still getting pummeled I don't see why the round can't be 10-7 for Robinson. Just a different interpretation, neither is truly wrong.

I get what you're saying about the 10-8 round but i just think it's totally wrong to give the second round 10-7, and the only reason a judge would be doing it would be so that the kd would be reflected, for me i'd just give the first 10-9 in the first place so i wouldnt be giving 10-7's in rounds with one kd purely to make up for it. I agree that nobody is truly wrong though, because it is left up to the judge today whether to score a 10-8, there's no strict criteria, and for me that's a problem. Because where does it stop? You can actually give a 10-8 for a round that you consider to be one-sided, but it's totally in your judgement, it can and has caused controversy. It should be reserved for knockdowns imo. And if i'm beating the **** out of you/schooling you embarrassingly and then you score a flash kd over me then to me it logically should be an even round. I know this isn't common practice but to me personally it is right. Like you say though, there is no strict criteria for 10-8 so nobody is wrong or right, to me that's ****.

i myself am not for the compulsory 10-8 for a knockdown if that is what it is. Seems to me that there are knockdowns of all kinds of different degree. it's just down to the refs discretion. You can have a fighter touch canvass after a cuffing shot when he's off balance and all of a sudden it's a 10-8 round. This usually happens when you are in another mans country. Same fight and the home fighter takes a heavy knockdown and that is 10-8 also assuming the ref calls it a legit knockdown that is.
For me the points available should be used in a 5 point must and even then i'd probably go no lower than a 5-2 but i'd score plenty 5-3 and really close rounds 5-4.
It would be interesting to score some fights we've scored ourself using this and see how it compares.

yeah, interesting. Same here though Al, i don't like it when the kd automatically means 10-8, it's just not right to me, and that's what happens. For instance if you are being dominated and then score a kd you win 10-8, that's not right for me.

Its a judgment call. For a flash-knockdown, ,maybe not. But if the dominator is seen to be hurt sufficiently by the knockdown, then 10-8 is warranted. We don't count punch-stats, we count effective aggression.

Of course we count effective aggression, as well as many other things, including ring generalship etc

    I 100% agree with you teeto.:good
It should be 9-9, same difference if scored 10-10 but it should be 9-9, that is the way I have always personally scored it.

On a slightly different matter people should score even rounds, even {10-10} if there is nothing in the round, people should score it even, otherwise if you score it 10-9 on a whim, then when one boxer does have the upper hand in a round you wont be rewarding him as you will be scoring it the same as a very close round.
I will score a beatdown as a 10-8 round, very rare indeed, but I will score a beatdown as a 10-8.
    I will score a beatdown and a knockdown as a 10-7 {very rare}, I once scored a 10-6 round for a beatdown, a knockdown and a point deduction.

The big issue in boxing scoring imo is the lack of even rounds, which can skew a result, one boxer can win 8 'even' rounds 10-9, the other boxer clearly wins the other 7 rounds 10-9 {ok I remember 15 round fights:lol:} and you get a false result in my opinion.
As without round scoring, one boxer clearly won the fight, but with round scoring the other boxer could win the fight, a true representation needs to be recorded.

Therefore a drawn round should be a drawn round 10-10, having the better of the round should be a 10-9, total dominance should be 10-8, and for a knockdown round there should be a point deducted.
That is the way I do it anyway.

excellent post. you clearly have a rational mind, and understand that scoring should show how the fight went.

teeto is an unwashed prostitute whose scoring system would cripple boxing if it were to ever be used.
