1. Ali beat up on guys much bigger and stronger than him. Particularly the Foreman fight where he came in a huge underdog in the 14th year of his career. He also came in 29 pounds less than Buster Mathis in their match. 2. Ali was also a "boxer", like Floyd, he had great defense and often came out of fights with an unmarked face. Floyd probably has the advantage in overall defense, but Ali was a much better dancer. Not only that, but threw more punches so it didn't appear as if he was "running" 3. while Ali was also a defesive fighter, he threw more jabs and was much better about throwing combinations. This aspect alone made him more effective and MUCH more fun to watch. 4. Ali faced much more adversity and won the heavyweight title after having poison put in his eyes by Linston. I tend to think Floyd would have taken the "safety first" approach in this situation while Ali made the guy quit on his stool. This part is just my opinion of coarse, but bottom line: They just don't make 'em like they used to. 5. After taking the Heavywight championship from Sonny Linston and the beating him again, Ali went on to defend his championship 6 times within a 12 month period, knocking out 5 of 6. 6. Yes, he lost to Frasier, but he came back and beat him, twice. Offering up a classic trilogy for fans to talk about for years to come, something Floyd may never do. 7. He fought ALL the best of his era despite having his titles taken from him and being banned from boxing. 8. He was much smarter and talked much better, making him more entertaining in every way. 9. He didn't give a damn if the ****head announcer gave him the time of day or tried to control the interview, he said what he wanted to say and walked away. He controlled the interviews as well as he controlled the fight. 10. Ali was prettier even after boxing 550 rounds. His only mistake, perhaps, was fighting on for too long. In my observation this shows his true warrior spirit, something that Floyd has not proven as of yet. Having said that, Floyd has the talent to prove his greatness, but does he have the heart?
Ali isn't even considered the greatest of all time. If you were going to compare use SRR. Oh and number 10...Warrior spirit? no i believe it's called the almighty dollar
I know, I know, but it's debatable. AND, I just watched Ali/Linston. To me he is the greatest. As for the worrior spirit, you have a point but do you honestly question Ali's spirit?
He wouldn't have to beat Clottey to prove anything except that he can beat the top guys in his division. If he beats Williams at Middleweight, then he can retire as one of the greatest. But really, he would need to defend it a time or two against someone like Pavlik or beat Williams a second time if it's close.
He had spirit, no doubt. But the only reason he carried on was money. He gained nothing but parkinson's as a result of him carrying on.
