I had it a draw. No problems at all with you having Toney winning. McCallum was busier and cuter, but when Toney opened up and exchanged with McCallum he was landing more power punches. Gary Mason scored the fight 118-110 for McCallum. What the hell was he watching? I have the SKY version with Ian Darke and Alan Minter.
The work from both fighters was excellent in this fight. The defense, counter punching, speed, and boxing ability by both was as good as you'll see. The fight had everything.
Graham-Gavilan was pretty bad. The one judge admitted that he was forced to score for Gavilan, no matter what...or else. Frankie Carbo was involved there. It would surprise me if Blinky Pelermo or what ever (forget his last name, he's a mobster from Philly) was involved too. Frankie Carbo had a bigger hold on boxing than the organizations them selves.
If I had to hazzard a guess I'd say you're right. If I had to hazzard another guess I'd say he's seen a 5 or 10 min clip of the fight at best.
And here it is: 145-142 Johnson Pastrano winning rounds 3,4,10,12 and 15. Johnson winning rounds 2,5,6,7,9,11,13 and 14. Rounds 1 and 6 even. Bad decision indeed. I think at best Pastrano loses it by a point, and at worst, probably loses it by 5 points.
I'm talking about Gavilans first defence against him. Graham would pick off Gavilans jab, and nail him with the right. I had it 9-6 Graham. It was a fix. The one judge admitted that if he scored it with out being forced to score it in favor of Gavilan, then he would have had it about 10-5 Graham.
Yep, you're talking about Gavilan-Graham III. In their first two encounters they split 10 round affairs. In the fourth fight Gavilan won over 15 without controversy. I have only seen an abridged version of the fight (4 of the 15 rounds), but I have ordered the fight complete and I'll have it in a couple of weeks. Will possibly bump this thread then if I think it calls for it.
