I'm sure both agreed Hamed needed more attention than Lewis did for Rahman but it's just a testament to the importance of a focused training camp with the right people to prepare for the fight.

Turns out Hamed could have gone into the Barrera fight with a sledgehammer and he still would have gotten his head handed to him.

I feel rahman gets underrated a bit... He's more than just a journey man or even a gatekeeper, aside from the losses to lewis and wlad he's always been competitive in his fights, he was beating both tua and maskaev he's a two time world champion. The guy isn't great but he was very good. I haven't watched the fights but i'm also guessing his fights to holyfield, ruiz and toney weren't exactly clear cut either? Could be wrong but i'm sure someone here will know more than me about it.

Ofcourse it was a huge upset, an atg should have no problems succeeding where tua and maskaev did before him. With hindsight we can say a loss to rahman isn't exactly the worst thing in the world.

A fair perspective. He's what you call a perennial contender. I think he's to his era what guys like Quarry and Chuvalo were to theirs. The guy was in the legitimate top ten for the better part of a decade, wasn't he?

Yeah he must spent almost all of the 00's in the top ten because he never got beaten by an unranked fighter. Yeah a perennial contender who actually made it, twice. It's a shame he never got the fight with vitali. Both needed that bout.

Rahman was a good fighter. He could KO people with one punch, his jab was really good when he used it, and his defence wasn't bad too.
However, he was slow and too predictable, and never had plan B for the fight. That's the main reason why he lost to Maskaev twice.

:good Good analysis indeed Lufcrazy. He gets a lot of flack because people always see it as the lucky punch, but really that is what makes boxing fun. And the guy had some good boxing skill when he was on his game.

He did great against Toney especially in the 1st fight. I wasn't sure how he would adjust to a slick boxer like Toney but he was tagging him from the early rounds & using his physical strenghth.

He was starting to come on late in the Evander fight, but that was one of the most freakish things to happen in boxing that night with that swelling head. Had it gone 12, probably a close decision.

He did awful against Ruiz that loss is a definate loss - I remember watching that fight shaking my head thinking what on earth happened to the Rock. So unpredictable!

At that point in time in his career, I think it would have been a competitve fight. It really is too bad that it never panned out, Hasim wasted a lot of his prime waiting on that fight to happen.

Now that it's pretty evident Vitali has a iron chin and would not of went down from a KO, i'd say it would have been a big night for Vitali but I'd love to have seen it.

Rahman strikes me as a poor mans Sonny Liston.

    Certainly some similarities.

Heard a lot of people praise Rahman's strength. Apparently he was big on weight-lifting and it showed in his physique. Had some of the widest shoulders you'll see in boxing. As I said previously though, this did not always translate to the ring. He even allowed the smaller Holyfield to bully him against the ropes and looked clueless throughout the fight.

I agree that Rahman at his best reminded Sonny Liston, boxing behind the jab, dropping heavy punches on his opponents. But a lot of the time he was simply Rahman, unimaginative and terrible to watch.

yep rahman was really strong, stronger than lewis and the klit bros,we have a poster here claiming he saw rahman benching 500 lbs for few reps, now that's some serious power and not many nfl players can say that for themselves
widest shoulders in boxing gotta be max baer :smoke
and btw when i said rahman manhandled lewis,i meant on the studio brawl where rahman made lewis his *****

It's true, he benches over 500 sometimes, that is just insane. THere is a video someplace of him talking about how bodybuilders wish they could lift as much as him LOL.

Dude had power, too much weight mass though slowed him down over the years something terrible.

Yeah the injury suffered against holyfield was crazy.

Was he really that bad vs ruiz? I know the styles are a bad match but i'd have thought the rock should have been too good for ruiz.

Yeah I agree about the vitali fight, perhaps rock would have had some success early on but I see him losing ultimately, the point is they were two of the best heavies at that time, the fight should have happened. Shame.
