Going into the fight I felt it was a prime p4p fighter against an older fighter and I suppose in a way it was. At the time of the fight I felt Joe won very clearly by adjusting round about round 4 and then outlanding Hopkins for the remainder of the fight. After the fight I tried rewatching it and scoring in favour of Hopkins, I maybe even managed it once or twice but it doesn't really reflect how I see the fight. With hindsight this is Joe's finest moment. Beating Kessler was good but beating Hopkins was great. B-Hop is a genuine legend and after this fight he spent 6 years as a top LHW and p4p himself. The win against Pavlik was majestic. The performances against Pascal were legendary. The wins against Cloud and Shumenov defied the body clock and cemented Hopkins as a top LHW even at such an advanced age. Did Calzaghe beat the best version of Hopkins? Of course not and maybe, just maybe the best version of Hopkins would have reversed the result. But the fact remains that Calzaghe still beat a legitimately great fighter.
Haha, " cerebral (dirty) style ". Do you agree Hopkins fakes that low blow to get extra time in the 10th? While it was a little low, I think Hopkins took a page out of John Ruiz game.
Joe threw a record high number of punches in his last ever fight against Roy so if you ask me he was fox in a hen house and a cat in a creamery. . He said himself that he felt a lot healthier at 175 since he was starving himself for years making 168.
