Hello one and all! I'm new to the Forum and can't wait to discuss and learn more about boxing from you insightful folk. Hope you are having a fantastic and safe holiday season! Happy new year in advance to all! After finishing watching a fantastic 4-part TV mini documentary series on Muhammad Ali, I got thinking about the big question - who really was the greatest of them all? Since I had time to kill, I decided to take on the task of compiling a list (just my list, aware it's not perfect) of fighters who I think deserve to be recognised in the top 100 of all time. After a few days of chopping and changing I'm excited to share my list with you all! I'd love to hear your opinions and thoughts. Special thanks to Matt McGrain, Hardline Boxing Talk, ESPN, The Fight City, Cox's Corner, and of course Bert Sugar whose fantastic lists I used as inspiration in the compilation of my list. Without further ado, here is the list: Muhammad Ali Sugar Ray Robinson Henry Armstrong Harry Greb Joe Louis Willie Pep Floyd Mayweather Jr. Benny Leonard Roberto Duran Manny Pacquiao Sugar Ray Leonard Sam Langford Archie Moore Ezzard Charles Jack Johnson Joe Gans Mickey Walker Tony Canzoneri Gene Tunney Barney Ross Rocky Marciano Jack Dempsey Jimmy Wilde Carlos Monzon Pernell Whitaker Marvin Hagler Bernard Hopkins Sandy Saddler Julio Cesar Chavez Alexis Arguello Roy Jones Jr. Jimmy McLarnin Bob Fitzsimmons Stanley Ketchel Eder Jofre Joe Frazier George Foreman Ruben Olivares Jake LaMotta Jose Napoles Emile Griffith Harry Wills Ted "Kid" Lewis Thomas Hearns Kid Gavilan Evander Holyfield Tommy Loughran Terry McGovern Charley Burley Holman Williams Larry Holmes Marcel Cerdan Billy Conn Kid Chocolate George Dixon Salvador Sanchez Carlos Zarate Johnny Dundee Ike Williams Jack Britton Dick Tiger Aaron Pryor Sonny Liston Carlos Ortiz Jersey Joe Walcott Oscar De La Hoya Andre Ward Philadelphia Jack O'Brien Bob Foster Juan Manuel Marquez Gene Fullmer Lennox Lewis Panama Al Brown Fighting Harada Pancho Villa Carmen Basilio Erik Morales Marco Antonio Barrera Freddie Miller Tiger Flowers Peter Herman Mike Tyson Pascual Perez Barbados Joe Walcott Wilfredo Gomez Freddie Steele Fidel LaBarba Baby Arizmendi Abe Attell Wilfred Benitez Michael Spinks James J. Jeffries Packey McFarland Mike Gibbons Lou Ambers Ricardo Lopez Tommy Gibbons Harold Johnson Jimmy Bivins Vicente Saldivar ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Honourable Mentions (just missed out): Floyd Patterson, Lloyd Marshall, Cocoa Kid, James J. Corbett, John L. Sullivan, Shane Mosley, Joe Calzaghe, Canelo Alvarez (not yet retired).
Tyson Fury could fight all 100 of them men on a single outing and whoop them all try harder next time
Pacquiao should be higher, because we actually have footage of him. For most of the fighters listed on here, we only have second-hand accounts of how good they were.
A lot of old-time fighters have become almost like tall tale heroes. "Pep won a round without throwing a punch!". "Duran knocked out a horse!".
